Audio Out of Sync While Editing

I'm editing a new video with still photos and music. I'm trying to bring photos up and have them it time with and relating to the music. While I'm editing Movie Maker the audio will only be in sync if I start from the beginning. If I try to start from 20 or 40 seconds or 1 1/2 minutes the audio (music) is wildly out of sync. I have to start from the beginning every time I want to make an edit (time length) on a photo. It will be in sync if I start from the beginning, but not if I try to edit from a later point in the video. Is there a way to permanently sync the music to the video?

Hi Ekkie101,

Welcome to Windows Movie Maker forum. Sorry to hear that your audio is not syncing properly when you start from 20 or 40 seconds or 1 1/2 minutes of the project. It is possible that the duration of the clip is not properly set up to the audio file. You may check the duration on the Edit tools.

In addition, we would like to ask some information from you so that we could also determine the other possible causes of the issue.

  • What are the file types that you are using?
  • Does the issue occur on specific files?
  • Have you tried removing or adding files to your project to sync the photos and audio?
  • Does the issue occur only in playback or it also occurs when you save the movie?

We look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,

Helene C.

Hi. Thank you for your reply. I am using an MP3 file for the music. Most of the photo files are j-pegs. I don't notice this happening on any particular file. But I am wondering if a different audio file - .wav, .wma - would give me better results? Any ideas?

Hello Ekkie101,

Thank you for the information that you've provided. If you can use .WMA file, then this will be the best file to use in Movie Maker as this file is the most compatible on the program.

In addition, we suggest that you check your codecs and video drivers as these two can affect the quality of the audio/video/photo file that you're using. For more information, on codecs and video drivers, please check the information below:

Insufficient codecs on your computer

Ensure that you have the proper codecs to play your videos and audio files – audio and video require codecs to play the file and it’s important to have the right codecs installed or updated in your PC.

- Try running the Microsoft FixIt tool for codecs: FixIT

- Media info will be able to identify any issue with missing or faulty codecs and whether it's already in your computer or not: Media Info

As for the Mediainfo, please follow the steps provided below on how to use the program:

  1. Download Mediainfo
  2. Install the program
  3. Run the program
  4. Open your movie file using      Mediainfo
  5. Switch the view of your mediainfo      to text. To do this, click the View button on the upper left part of the      window and click text
  6. When you see the codec that you're      lacking, please download it. You can search for the codec in http://bing.com

Outdated video card driver

We would also need you to check if your video card drivers are up to date - Movie Maker makes extensive use of the video card GPU (graphics processing unit). The display driver affects the reliability, performance, and compatibility of the video card with different software.

To determine the version and video card driver date, run the DirectX Diagnostic Tool (dxdiag):

DirectX Diagnostic Tool

1. Click on Start button and type “dxdiag” in the Search programs and files box and press Enter key on the keyboard.

2. Click on the Display tab and you will see the driver details including the driver version.

3. If your video card driver seems outdated please go to the video card driver manufacturer and see if a newer version is available.

Example:

http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx

Let us know the result afterwards.

Thank you.

I am having the same issue as Ekkie101. Also with my audio it is adding a blank gap to the start of every song I try to use. I have tried the fixes listed here and they have not made a difference. I am trying to make a lyric video to post on Youtube and it was working great the first few times I used it. Now it is doing this. Please Help! I am using windows 7 and MP3 and WMA file types are doing the same thing.

Hi KimDuncan,

We sincerely apologize for the delay in our response. After investigating this issue, it is possible that there is a problem with the audio file that you are using on your Movie Maker project. Sync issues on Movie Maker usually happens when there are certain incompatibilities on the file type with the program.

One of the workaround for this issue is to convert the files to a more supported format like WMA. You can search Bing for free audio file converters.

Let us know if you have more questions.

Thanks.
