Audio Drivers

Since the Windows 10 October update my audio driver for RealTek High Definition Audio no longer functions correctly.  In particular when I play a game, there is NO sound.  I can play video files with sound and I can watch YouTube with sound, but there is no sound when I  play a game.  I've called my computer manufacturer ASUS and they walked me through several procedures to "reset" my drivers and correct the issue and finally  determined that there is a software glitch due to the Win 10 update that was auto downloaded to my computer.

How/When is Microsoft going to resolve this?

Hi CawleyV.

Indeed, it is not nice to be without sound.

Issue is related to the drivers.

If your device has Intel drivers that it should be updated from this source: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/28240...

Hi CawleyV.

Try installing the audio driver for your motherboard. See your computer's brand and find the manufacturer's page, then download the driver and install it.

Let me know if I can help you further!

Yeah I called ASUS support and they walked me through downloading the driver and that didn't work.  I just reinstalled the game and that didn't work either.

Hello CawleyV

If this was caused by Windows Updates then you can check which were installed at Settings>Update & Security>Windows Update under Installed Updates, then uninstall them from the link there, and hide with the Hide Updates tool downloaded from here:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/2/2/f2...

Then restart the computer and test the sound if it does not work, do the following

1-Right-click on the Windows icon; then select Control Panel.
2-Click Hardware and Sound.
3-Under Sound, select Manage audio devices; then select Audio Device.
4-Right-click unistall device
5-Select OK.
6-Check that there is no audio device installed.
7-Then restart the computer

Now we are going to install the asus driver

1-Right-click on the Windows icon; then select Control Panel.
2-Click Hardware and Sound.
3-Under Sound, select Manage audio devices; then select Audio Device.
4-Right-click update driver
5-Select browse my computer then chose your asus driver folder
6-When the computer finishes installing the driver, restart it.

Let us know if the above instructions help.

Regards

I started following your directions until step 4. There aren't any audio devices installed since the update, and I can't find another one that'll install.

Did you update to 1809?
This appears to have caused a problem with removing or replacing the audio driver with a Microsoft one, the solution is to visit the manufecturer’s website to download the audio driver, beware as MS is mis-stating that it’s the Intel audio driver which is missing rather than Realtek audio for some people.
You can also try to uninstall the audio driver then run scan far hardware changes to reinstall said driver.

Interesting... All I see is the Cumulative Update a la 1803.  My system has RealTek speakers and I have walked through the process of re-installing the RealTek driver with the computer manufacturer on the phone.  Still no change--I can watch and listen to videos but still no sound while playing computer games (and it's all games that have no sound).  I've uninstalled both the RealTek and NVIDIA audio drivers multiple times.

I'm in the process of removing the last updates per Freddyys.

This just ain't my bag...
