Audio Drivers on Windows 10

Hello,

I know that the Realtek discussion is an onld one, but I still haven't found a proper solution for my question.

I have a Asus N55SL laptop - originally with Windows 7 - and I recently upgraded to Windows 10. Well, actually it's the second time I upgrade, because the first time around was a catastrophic failure (see other thread).

Ok, so I decided to give W10 a second chance, because I DO think there are many interesting and redeeming features.

Nonetheless, the Audio Drivers issue is really upsetting. I tried pretty much every recommendation around and nothing. Anything coming from Realtek is useless. The Device Manager says everything's alright (no errors whatsoever), but I can't get any sound.

Things worked fine with the generic Audio Drivers from Windows 7 - 6.1.7601.17514 - but W10 insisted on loading the "more suitable" Realtek Drivers. They can't be rolled back (greyed out) and I can't restore the system (had it disabled as per SSD manager recommendation).

I only want to get my trusty ol' windows 7 audio drivers back.

How can this be done? Is there a specific file or something from where I can force Windows 10 to select those older drivers. Can they be copied from another computer or something?

Best regards

Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I understand the inconvenience caused. I will be glad to assist you with this.

As you mentioned that the older version of driver works fine, I would suggest you to try the steps below and check if it helps:

1. Press Windows key + R to open the run command.

2. Type devmgmt.msc and press enter.

3. Expand Sound video and game controllers.

4. Right click on the driver and select uninstall

5. Restart the computer and check.

If that doesn't help, you can downloaded the latest audio driver from the manufacturer's website and check. If there are no driver for Windows 10, you can install it in compatibility mode by following the steps below:

1. Right-click on the setup file of the driver and select "Properties".

2. Select "Compatibility" Tab.

3. Place a check mark next to "Run this program in Compatibility mode" and select Windows 8  from the drop  down list.

4. Let the driver install and then check the functionality .

I would also suggest you to try the steps given in the article below and check:
