Hi TeeDeeMorgan,
We are sorry for the inconvenience that you is caused to you. Let me see how quickly we could sort out the issue. Hold the power button of the Laptop until it turns off the Laptop, then press the power button to turn On the Laptop, then check.
If the computer is still frozen, refer to the following methods and check if it helps:
Method 1: Disconnect the external devices (printers, scanner, USB (universal serial bus) drives, etc...) except mouse and the keyboard and then check if you can start the computer.
Method 2: Let’s check if automatic Repair can detect and fix the issue. To run Automatic Repair using preinstalled recovery options:
- Boot to WinRE. To do this you must allow the system to fail the boot process three times.
- From the Choose an option screen, tap or click Troubleshoot.
- Next, tap or click the Advanced options, and then tap or click Automatic Repair.
- Automatic Repair will launch and attempt to fix any issues that prevent Windows from loading.
Also refer to the suggestions from the following link, perform the suggestions under this section: “My computer hangs or freezes at the Starting Windows screen”.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2681286#top
Note: Any data files that are infected may only be cleaned by deleting the file entirely, which means there is a potential for data loss.
Let us know if it helps. If the issue persists, please reply, we will be happy to assist you further.

I let the battery run out and it came back on with the same screen. What is WinRE? I literally cannot do anything. Access nothing. Circle keeps running.

Hi,
Windows Recovery Environment (Windows RE) is an extensible recovery platform based on Windows Preinstallation Environment. When the computer fails to start, Startup Repair tool in Windows RE will help us repair the operating system files. Please try the method 2 and let us know the status.

TeeDeeMorgan,
Bought the same machine. Worked great for two days. Now Microsoft's glut software detects that an "adapter" has been inserted and removed. However the software no longer listens to the audio-in via the external comb jack. I only listens to audio via the internal "Skype" mic. What update screwed this up? My grandkids could write better code than Microsoft.

Hi Thompson,
I'm sorry you've had such a bad experience. I'd like to try and help you with the issue.
Were there any changes made to the tablet prior to the issue (Installing updates/connecting new devices)?
Refer to the following methods and check if it helps:
Method 1: Run the Audio troubleshooters.
-
On the start screen type “Troubleshooting” without quotes in the search box and hit Enter key.
- Select “View all” from the left panel.
- Run the Play audio troubleshooter and follow the onscreen instructions.
- Also run the Recording audio troubleshooter.
- Once this is done, restart the computer and check if it fixes the issue.
If the issue still persists, let’s reinstall sound card drivers. Refer to method 2.
Method 2:
-
Press Windows key + R, type devmgmt.msc in the run prompt, hit Enter key.
-
Expand the Sound, video and game controllers, right-click the sound card, click uninstall.
-
Restart the computer, let Windows detect the driver and install by itself.
-
Check if it fixes the issue.
Try this step and let us know the results.

Stephenjwc,
Bought two HP "x2-k010nr" first died after 8 hours and the second stopped listening to the external "combo" jack audio-in. Also bought an Asus transformer and it worked for two day and the machine stopped listening to the external "combo" jack audio-in. Yes think it's time to go to Apple! I filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission.

I bought an asus vivopc and spent at least 10 hours setting it up just last week including spending almost two hours on the phone with microsoft only to have to refresh it today for the reason stated in this post - losing all of that work - likely to have to repeat everything - i am about done with microsoft products, pcs all of it. I am so angry right now.
Somebody needs to convince me why I should not return this pc and go to apple which also makes me angry.
