Any Microsoft Store app fails to install.

So, I own Java Edition, and wanted to use the RTX shaders of Bedrock Edition. But, the "Install" button does nothing. I can click it, but nothing happens. Every once in a while I get this notification:

But that sure as hell doesn't help. I also tried installing it through "Install on my devices", but that did just as little as the normal "Install" button.

How do I fix this? This also happens with other apps i try to install, but that doesn't matter as much since i don't even want them.

Hi Pulmig,

My name is Jocelyn an independent advisor and a fellow Windows 10 user.

Please do the following fix and check if it helps.

1. Check the time and date.

Check your time and date if it is correct.

2. Log out and log in back to Microsoft store.

Open the Microsoft Store app, and click on the user icon located on the top right-hand side of the window.
Select the user name, and click on Sign out.
Close the Store app
Open it again, and sign back with your Microsoft Account in Windows Store.
Check if you can update apps.

3. Check for Windows Updates

Settings>Click on Update & Security then Windows update

4. Reset Windows Store Cache

Press Windows Key + R then type “wsreset.exe” and hit enter.
Let the command run which will reset your Windows Store cache.
When this is done restart your PC to save changes.

5. Re-Register Microsoft Store

In the Windows search type Powershell then right-click on Windows PowerShell and select Run as administrator. Then type:

Get-AppXPackage | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}

Restart windows and check to see if you can install apps from Microsoft Store.

I hope this would help. Let me know if you need anything else.

Best,
Jocelyn

I tried doing the last fix you mentioned, but powershell says i need to close Microsoft.Windows.Cortana_1.11.6.17763_neutral_neutral_cw5n1h2txyewy.

I'm not sure what this is, since i don't even have Cortana on my PC. What do I do now?

You will get this error if you try to reregister an app that is currently open or in use.
Please make sure to close Microsoft Store and then reregister Microsoft Store by running the command again in Powershell.

Please try the following:

1. Check for any pending apps in Microsoft Store.

Open Microsoft Store and click on the menu to open Downloads and updates.

2. Reset Microsoft Store

Go to Settings>Apps>Apps and Features
Locate Microsoft Store and then click the Advanced options link
Click the Reset button.
Restart your computer then check if you can install any apps again.

3. Sync your settings

Go to Windows Store
Press Windows Key + C
Open Settings
Select App Updates
Sync Licenses

5. Change download location in Microsoft Store

Here are the steps on how to change the download location for Microsoft Store games.

Open your Settings app and click System.
Go to Storage.
Locate the ‘Change where new content is saved’ link.
Go to the ‘New apps will save to:’ section.
Select the drive where you would like to save your game

6. Try a different user account

If you have a different user account, please check if you can install apps in Store.

If you don't have one, follow the steps to create user account on Windows 10.

Click Start and then select settings.
Click on Accounts then Family & other users.
On the right pane, click Add someone else to this PC under Other user.

If none of them work, you can perform a Windows 10 repair upgrade. Repair upgrade fixes all Windows errors and keeps all files, applications, and settings.
Refer to this link below:

Open the tool and choose Upgrade This PC Now. This will solve most problems.
