Annoying 'Windows Update' Every Single Day

Every day past 5 weeks I get a RESTART or EXIT or Another Time for a Windows Update.

Just about every day I click Restart Now which sometimes takes a long time then, later in evening while watching movies I get the same thing again.

Sometimes I click 'Another Time'.

I'm tired of this from Microsoft. It should not be happening. It is annoying. I am fully covered with McAfee Multi Access, System Mechanic, Super Anti Spyware and Norton. My computer is updated automatically on its own. I am unable to update info within System Mechanic because 'Windows Update' need a Restart Now !!

Can I get an Answer here, please?

Please note, Microsoft's approach to updates is very different that earlier releases. They are basically mandatory because of Microsoft's past history with customers sometimes failing to install important updates.

See options for managing how and when Windows Updates are installed.

Option 1:

Set your Internet connection as metered:
https://www.groovypost.com/howto/manage-windows...

Option 2:

Use Active Hours and Restart options:
https://www.groovypost.com/howto/managing-windo...

Option 3:

Use Show/Hide Updates tool to block the update:

Is there an option or work around to block updates or hardware drivers that might cause problems?
Yes, Microsoft has released a KB update (KB3073930) that will let users block or hide Windows or driver updates.

You can download it at the following link:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930

Option 4:

Press Windows key + R
Type: services.msc
Hit Enter

Scroll down to Windows Update
Select it then right click it
Click Properties
Under the General tab, choose Startup type to DIsabled
Click Stop
Click Apply then OK

Option 5:

Before carrying out this procedure, disconnect from the Internet. That means turning off Wi-Fi and disconnecting from a wired connection. If you don't, Windows 10 will indicate some files are in use and cannot be modified or the command will be non-responsive. Also, you should restart your computer after disconnecting from the Internet. The easiest way to do it is to enable Airplane mode from the Action Center - Windows key + A.

Stop the BITS, Cryptographic, MSI Installer and the Windows Update Services. To do this, type the following commands at a command prompt. Press the “ENTER” key after you type each command.

net stop wuauserv

net stop cryptSvc

net stop bits

net stop msiserver

Option 6:

Upgrade to Windows 10 Pro which can pause updates for up to 35 days or block them for a year.

Open Start > Settings > Update & security > Activation
Click the link ‘Go to the store to upgrade or enter a product key’
Click the $99 button to make your purchase (the price might vary by region or depending on the edition you are upgrading from or upgrading to).
Follow the on screen instructions to make your purchase.
Within 5 to 10 minutes, your system will be upgraded to Windows 10 Pro, your personal files, apps and settings preserved.
You won’t get a product key, you get a digital license, which is attached to your Microsoft Account used to make the purchase.

Additional options:
Open Start, type: CMD
Right click CMD
Click Run as administrator

Type in at the prompt OR Copy and Paste these one at a time : (Hit enter after each)

sc stop wuauserv
sc config wuauserv start= disabled

Adding WindowsUpdate/AU options keys to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows
thanks for your help.

Hi Patricia. I'm Greg, an installation specialist and 8 year Windows MVP, here to help you.

No expert in Forums where we see the most cases (by the tens of thousands) recommends System Mechanic, Norton or McAfee, but we do solve problems by having them uninstalled.

I would uninstall any 3rd party antivirus and the System Mechanic tweaking sutie, and try running only built-in Defender which gives adequate protection, least issues, and is from Microsoft who knows how to protect their OS best.

If you want the best on-demand scanners install and run Malwarebytes and AdwCleaner free scanners.

Then if Updates problems persist There is a new guided walk-through from Microsoft for repairing Windows Update that leads up to resetting components if necessary: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/10164/.... Try running that first.

You can also install the Updates manually that fail to install which are logged at Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Installed Update History, and then search for those to download and install from this Catalog: http://test.catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/sit...

If they continue to fail and interfere, then you can block them using one of these methods: https://www.howtogeek.com/224471/how-to-prevent...

What I'd do at this point is install Spring Creators Update by installing Media Creation Tool from this link and choose Upgrade This PC Now: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/m...

This is the most stable way to change to the newer version and because it reinstalls WIndows while keeping your files and programs in place, fixes most problems. It also brings all Windows Updates to date.

If there are any hurdles during install then these steps can overcome them: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.
