ALL Windows apps not working after November upgrade. Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.10586]

After the recent November upgrade none of my apps are working including windows store. Mail, calendar, weather, one note etc. dont open at all. Edge still works however.

I tried all fixes I could find online to no avail.

I created a new user with Microsoft account and logged in. With this new account all apps are working. So it seems to be tied to my user account somehow I'm guessing.

Any Ideas on how I can fix this issue without having to delete the user completely?

PS: System restore also does not work. Get failed error.. no files have been changed etc message.

System restore works in safe mode however.

I suggest you to follow the below methods and check if it helps.

Method 1: Run the apps troubleshooter included within Windows OS manually by following the steps below and check if the issue persist.

In many cases, the Windows Store will automatically notify you if there’s a problem with an app and try to fix the problem. If you continue experiencing problems with an app, this tool can automatically identify and fix some problems with apps and the Store.

  1. Type troubleshooting in the search box next to Start icon and select the top most search result.
  2. Click on View All from the left hand screen panel.
  3. Select Windows Store apps, click on Advanced option and check Apply repairs automatically option.
  4. Follow the on screen instructions.

You can also run the automatic App troubleshooter from the link below and check if the issue is resolved:

Method 2: If the issue persist, reset the store cache by following the steps below, and check if the issue is resolved.

  1. Open Run command by pressing Windows Key + R.
  2. Type wsreset.exe and press Enter.

Yes of course I've already run the apps trouble shooter. It couldn't fix anything. There are no errors while trying to open an app. It just does nothing.

I've just tried wsreset.exe and get this notification box:

" you'll need a new app to open this

  ms-window-store"

There's a check mark "always use this app" and a greyed out ok that does not work even if "always use this app" is checked.

Well unfortunately I  never found a complete solution. I was able to re register the store through powershell. But even after i got it working i could not get any other apps to work. Could not install new apps either from within store. (would always get failed to install error 0xdsomething after downloading)

Ultimately i had to wipe and reinstall from a recent backup. All is good now. Ive reinstalled everything from windows update and things are still fine. 

I have a strong feeling windows 10 is going to be a real PITA.

I understand you had to reinstall the OS. However, there were still scope of troubleshooting that could help resolving the issue. If you get the issue next time, I would suggest you to Re-register the Windows Store App and check. To re-register, please try these steps:

a) Press “Windows Logo” + “X” keys.

b) Click on the “Command Prompt (Admin)”.

c) On the command prompt window, copy and paste the following command, and then press “ENTER

powershell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $Env:SystemRoot\WinStore\AppxManifest.xml

d) Check the result displayed on the command prompt window.

e) If it was successfully processed, then type “Exit” and press “ENTER”.

it shows me that cannot find path C:\WINDOWS\Winstore\Appxmanifest.xml

how to solve this ?
FYI 

before this my taskbar wasnt working for sometimes but sometimes its ok so I have tried some command on the powershell as some post on internet suggested

i remember after running the command on the powershell,  my windows apps just cant work ( included store, mail, etc.)

I had the same problem, this solved it. Its a bit difficult to folow, but still better than doing an in place upgrade.
