All programs list in start menu

So when I open my start menu it looks like this:

I want to get rid of the file explorer display, and simply have my start menu look like this:

The way I got it to look like that was just clicking on the three lines in the top left corner, but it reverts whenever you close the start menu. I've looked elsewhere and can't find anything beside removing the new folders like recent or quick access which I've already done. I don't need this list showing up every time I open the start menu just so I can see all the programs I don't use. I want it to be clean. Please help.

Hi,

Check these articles (the one for Windows 7 also applies to Windows 10).

Hope this helps.

The easiest way to get rid of the All apps list is to go Settings, Personalization, Start , turn on Use Start full screen.

Then you can get to All apps which will be in the center of the screen while you are looking through the list.  When you get out of Start it will revert back to just the tiles when you reopen it later.

I've looked through this, and nothing I do works It doesn't help that the I don't have the pathway they want me to use. So, unless someone can find the most recent file path and proper Dword then I don't want to touch the registry anymore. Thanks for the tip though. If nothing comes of this then I'll have to look more into registry edits.

This shouldn't be this hard though.

I don't want full screen start. That's almost as bad as what's happening now.

This is how my Start screen looks.

And it is Full Screen.  You can stack the groups they do not have to go across the screen.  I also use small tiles to keep them together.
