ALL MY ACCOUNT DATA WAS DELETED AFTER UPDATE

after windows forced me to update and wait 30 minutes to install it i was met with an account screen that looked like a guest. i hadn't logged in or anything but when i tried to log out i found that my account had been completely reset and all my files had been lost. i have all installed programs still available but no documents or downloads etc. i have no backup and when i tried to go back to an earlier build it said that my account had been added after the recent upgrade. my account has been there from the start! i want to know if i remove this account and roll back how will i get my old account back?

in the C drive there's an 3 new files in users. (my account name is admin)

theres default.migrated, admin and admin.LENOVO-PC

admin is my account from before the update, intact with all my files. default.migrated is just a bunch of folders and admin.lenovopc is empty.

my theory is my account was hidden and replaced with a new empty one but i'm scared to delete this one because i don't know how to get all my settings and files back from my old account

should i delete this account and roll back to the previously version

you go to hkey_local_machine and change your new local image path to your old one

Yes, your guess is on the right path

Hi, this is happening much too often at the moment, I think you are logged into a temporary account . . .

Please open Windows File Explorer
Navigate to C:\Users
Do you see your User Profile folder in there appended with a computer name?

Open that folder and check inside Pictures, Documents . . . etc. and see if your files are there

If your files are there, I would back them up as soon as possible

Your best option then is to create a new profile with admin privileges and copy all your data to the new profile . . .

If you still cannot find your files, please let me know!

Sounds like you have logged into a temporary profile. Try restarting your computer a few times. Press Control + Alt + Delete
Click Sign out
At the sign in screen, click the power button, then click Restart. Do this a few times then try signing again. If the desktop still does not show up, then create a new local user account.

Try creating a local account:
https://www.groovypost.com/howto/create-local-a...

Sign into the new account.
Open File Explorer on the Taskbar > This PC
Open the drive where Windows is installed
Open Users
Look if your old account old is there with your files - it might be amended with the machine name.
Best,
Andre

i can't reset my computer since i don't have a backup and you haven't answered my questions:

does rolling back to the last update restore my account?

if i update again will it delete my account again or i should this a random error?

also i don't have any missing apps, my old user profile is still in C:/users, so should i delete this profile and roll back?

Hi, from reading so many of these threads in the past week, rolling back does not seem to be an option.

In Account Settings it will not mention anything about a temp account, since this is a bug in the latest Windows 10 update, Windows does not realise you are signed into a temp account !!

A lot of users have tried that and are getting an error, that they must remove any accounts created before Windows 10 can roll back

I feel, if they then remove an account they run the possibility of wiping their data, so I would advise against a roll back

That is why, I suggest locating your data, backing it up, creating a new user account with admin privileges and then moving your data to that new account . . .

Steps I provided earlier:

Please open Windows File Explorer

Navigate to C:\Users
Do you see your User Profile folder in there appended with a computer name?

Open that folder and check inside Pictures, Documents . . . etc. and see if your files are there

If your files are there, I would back them up as soon as possible

Your best option then is to create a new profile with admin privileges and copy all your data to the new profile . . .

that would mean i would have to manually change all of the changes i have made over the years! i can't do that manually so rolling back has to be an option

OK, but I would definitely backup your data before you proceed, just in case . . .
