age of empires 2 wont play on windows 10

as per above. have installed  age of empires 2 on my windows 10 computer, but when opening the game a pop up asks for permission, i accept and then nothing happens afterwards. game wont run

AOE2 also had issues on Win7 for a lot of people. I don't have AOE2 but from what I've read previously, it will run on Win10.
Any fixes that worked for Win7 should also work for Win10.

The first thing to do would be to install any patches that were released for the game.

The site below is one of several fan sites for these games. You should be able to find fixes at the forums on one of these sites.

Programs and Features > Turn Windows Features On or Off  and verify that  Legacy Components & Direct Play and .NET 3.5 are enabled.

- MS has introduced a new issue for users of old disk based games. MS has started blocking the driver (secdrv.sys) used by SafeDisk copy protection (used on almost all older MS games).  I have more details regarding DRM Blocking in my post at --this thread--

- You will need to use a noCD fix/hack to run this game on Win10.
