After updating Windows 10, canon MF toolbox can't find scanner program.

Hello.
We have multiple users sharing one computer.

It was install driver & Canon MF 4770n scanner program under ADMIN user , all users are 'USER groups' & each user has a password. ( No Domain , network copier setting )

After updating Windows 10, MF scanner program does not run & the scan button on the copier cannot be used.

I've reinstalled countless times & the Windows Scan & Fax program doesn't work either.

Please tell me what to do.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello.

I set it in the admin user. ( after restart )
After checking the taskbar icon. ( User Groups )
It doesn't work with the same problem.

of course, It works for only admin users.

Have any other option? 🤔 Thanks.

Hi

Welcome to Microsoft community.

It appears that you're facing issues with the Canon MF Toolbox scanner program after a Windows 10 update, and the problem is affecting non-administrator users. Let's try to troubleshoot this issue:

1. Check User Permissions:

  • Ensure that the non-administrator users have the necessary permissions to run the Canon MF Toolbox and access the scanner. Right-click on the Canon MF Toolbox shortcut or executable file, go to "Properties," and navigate to the "Security" tab to verify that the appropriate user groups have permissions.

2. Run as Administrator (Temporarily):

  • You can try running the Canon MF Toolbox as an administrator on the non-administrator user accounts. Right-click on the program shortcut or executable and choose "Run as administrator." If it works when run as an administrator, it suggests a permissions issue.

3. Compatibility Mode:

  • Right-click on the Canon MF Toolbox shortcut or executable, go to "Properties," and navigate to the "Compatibility" tab. Try running the program in compatibility mode for Windows 7 or an earlier version of Windows, as some older software may not be fully compatible with Windows 10.

4. Reinstall Canon MF Toolbox:

  • Completely uninstall the Canon MF Toolbox and then reinstall it. Make sure you download the latest version of the software from the Canon website, ensuring it's compatible with Windows 10.

5. Compatibility Mode for Windows Installer:

  • If you encounter issues during installation, try running the Canon MF Toolbox installer in compatibility mode. Right-click the installer, select "Properties," go to the "Compatibility" tab, and enable compatibility mode for an earlier version of Windows.

7. Check for Scanner Driver Updates:

  • Ensure that you have the latest scanner drivers installed. Visit the Canon website, search for your scanner model, and download and install the latest drivers if available.

8. Create New User Profiles (if necessary):

  • As a last resort, if the issue persists, you can try creating new user profiles for the affected users. Sometimes, user profiles can become corrupted, leading to software issues.

After trying these steps, check if the Canon MF Toolbox works for non-administrator users.

Please let me know if you need any further assistance. Thank you.

Best regards

There has been an ongoing issue with the Canon installer, which does not correctly write keys in the registry for a normal user. As a result, the installation of Canon software can only be done under a local administrator. It’s 2024, and Canon still does not have a correct installer.

However, you can rectify this issue by copying some missing keys in the registry.

From:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Canon

To:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Classes\VirtualStore\MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Canon

You simply need to export your branch keys “from” to a .reg file. In the saved file, replace the path “from” HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Canon to “to” HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Classes\VirtualStore\MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Canon, and then import the file.

After performing these steps, my ScanGear for the Canon LiDE scanner mainly twain problem and my MF Toolbox for Canon printers started working flawlessly again on the affected machines.

I have been dealing with this problem for years!!! (I’m looking at you, Canon), and I have only just found this solution.
