After uninstall, Macafee Security link still in Start Menu. How to remove

I fired up my new HP Pavillion, created an admin account and immediately uninstalled MacAfee Security as I planned on using windows defender + Malwarebytes.  I used the programs and features tool to uninstall it.  This seemed to work.

However, a link to MacAfee Security still remains in the standard user accounts.  I cant seem to get rid of these.  I emphasize that the MacAfee link is gone from the admin account.

I've looked at all the start menu locations I know about under program data and user appdata, but I see no link there.

Where could this link be coming from?

Thanks for your help,

Dan

I used 'program and features' to uninstall.  This seemed to work until I saw links.  I then tried the removal tool.  As far as I can tell, all traces of software are gone, except for links.  When I click the link, it pops up Window prompting for install.

Didn't think it would be this hard...

Well I just looked at link's properties.  Seems its linked to something called MacAfee Startup, that I found in list of Startup processes.  I've disabled that, and I'll reboot and BRB

Also, press Windows key + R
Type: shell:startup
Hit Enter

If you see it there, select it then delete it.

After reboot, MacAfee Startup still disabled, but link still there.

I went into the link's app settings, hit terminate, then uninstall and voila, link is gone.

I'll be curious to see if it comes back after restart...

Thanks for help.  I'll post what happens after restart.

OK, after reboot, McAfee link in start Menu is still gone.

I searched my C: drive for 'McAfee' and found a java script under HP's directories in Program Data that I think was the 'app' that the link was connected to as the popup looked like a bare bones browser window.

I guess uninstalling the McAfee software under one user name doesn't chain through all users to remove HP's app.

Or something.

Thanks again,

Dan

Third party AV's pretty much work like viruses themselves to ensure they deeply hooked into the system as much as possible, some of it for good and also for its own protection and mutual benefit.
