ActiveX Controls

I have an ActiveX Control file that McAfee Security centre will not remove. McAfee have advised that it something being used by a background program. Can anyone suggest how I can find and stop it? Help please.

Hello John,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

I would appreciate, if you can provide us the following information to help us understand the issue better?

  •  Have you made any recent hardware or software changes to your computer prior to the issue?

I would suggest you to follow the methods given below and check.

Method 1: Run the Internet explorer performance troubleshooter.

Internet explorer trouble shooter provides the solution to some common problems with internet explorer. And it tries to fix problems automatically.

Follow the steps:

  1. Click on Start. Go to Control Panel.
  2. Change the category view by large icon.
  3. Select Troubleshooting.
  4. Click on view all and select Internet explorer performance.
  5. Click next and follow the on-screen instructions.

If issue still persists try method 2.

Method 2: Let’s try running internet Explorer in no add-ons mode and check if the issue occur.

Step1:

To disable Add-ons try following steps

a) Press Windows key + R
b) Type iexplore.exe -extoff
c) Hit enter.
d) Now check the issue.

If you are able to attach files, then add-ons may be causing the error.

Step 2:You may try the steps provided to enable add-ons individually to determine which of the add-ons may be causing the problem.

For further information, refer to the article:

Hello Ashish

The problem is nothing to do internet explorer. McAfee Security Centre will not remove the ActiveX Control file even when I run it offline.

McAfee Support have said that there is a Windows background program using it and that is why it cannot be removed.

Regards

John

Perform Clean Boot.

Hello Ashish

I have performed a clean boot and run McAfee Security Quick Clean in the clean boot state. The problem still exists, i.e. one ActiveX Control file is not removed.

I have reset my computer to "Normal Startup" operation

Regards

John

Can you provide further advice on how to remove the ActiveX Control file.

First... An ActiveX Control isn't necessarily unnecessary, unwanted or a security problem.

Second... If you're still concerned about this, you're entitled to support from McAfee. Contact McAfee.
