A disk read error while verifying DMI Pool Data

This happened on 10/7, following 10/6 update to Windows 10.  Is there a fix?

Appreciate the quick response, but the computer looks as if it does not get through the BIOS.  No start screen.  The error message pops up immediately after verifying DMI Pol Data.

Thanks.  Tried interrupting the boot process multiple times to get to a safe mode but no luck.  Ever since the April Windows 10 update, I have been fighting this computer, routinely using the Troubleshoot in Settings.  At times it would take as many as three attempts to stop the updates from freezing everything up on me.  Is it possible that using the Troubleshoot so many times could have done something to the partitions?  If that is the case, then what are my options? I still get the PCI Devices Listing, followed by Verifying DMI Pool Data, followed by A disk read error occurred, followed by the "Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart, which solves nothing.  Back in the day, I could always get into Safe Mode to checkdsk, but this computer is 5 years old and should not be acting up like this.
