20h2 icons no color

After i update my Surface 3 to 20h2, a lot of icons in start menu and taskbar display flat no color. But there are few icons display in normal new design & color.

But my brother's Surface 3 update to 20h2 with no problem. All the icons display in new design & color. As normal.

With my Surface 3,

I've tried delete iconcache, but dont fix.

I've tried uninstall/reinstall display driver, still dont fix.

I've tried clean reset pc 2 times, still dont fix.

I've also tried System File Checker tool, still dont fix.

Anybody know how to fix this?

Hi Nazrul

I am Dave, an Independent Advisor, I will help you with this . . .

In version 20h2, the tiles on the Start Menu cannot be colored, this is what Microsoft are calling 'Theme Aware Tiles'

If the tile is set to a live tile ,or is an older App, then there will still be color on the tile, but eventually all tiles will be transparent, and a slightly different shade of color you set the Start Menu to be, so, if for example you set your Start Menu to Blue, it will look like the image below . . .

Hi Nazrul

Are you referring to the icons on the left in the alphabetical list, or the tiles on the right of the screenshot you provided?

Hi Nazrul

Those icons on the left are the new Windows 10 default icon set in version 20h2, the new icons are flat white icons, check your brother's version to make sure that is 20h2, click the Start Button, then just type winver and press Enter

My brother also updated his windows to 20h2 version same as me. I think, my brothers icons is the new one. New icon design that microsoft has announce.

We have the same surface model (surface 3, bought same time, same place), updated from same windows version (2004) and updated to same windows version (20h2). But the output is different.

These are the icons that should come with 20h2 (that my brother's surface 3 had):

You can see the version of icons here in this windows blog, please check and read:

https://blogs.windows.com/windows-insider/2020/07/24/announcing-windows-10-insider-preview-build-19042-421-20h2/

My brothers surface icons are the right ones. My surface icons are the fault ones based on that blog.

I have solve this problem. The problem seems fixed after I uninstall/reinstall the display driver multiple times BUT this time I checked the DELETE THE DRIVERS AFTER UNINSTALL option.

All the icons has change to the new icons that should come with 20h2 update. Tq.

@DaveM121 - Your original answer may not have been what the OP was asking about, but it sure helped me... Couldn't figure out why my tiles were suddenly the same color as my start menu. (Thanks!)

Any idea why Microsoft went this route?  (I personally like being able to choose a color for my tiles... seems like an option toggle would have been a good choice... leave it up to the user)

TIA

I have seen those partially B&W icons and that was fixed by updating Store apps.

(After update to 20H2 also store apps must be updated.)

On start menu open Microsoft Store. Top right corner of store app click '...' and select

'Download and Updates', On Download and updates page click 'Get updates'.

Update = Replace old bugs with new ones.
