2 questions on mcupdate.exe

1. what is this? When I google it all I get is stuff about McAfee. I don't have McAfee and never had McAfee. The googled information seems to indicate it could also be a virus. However, I notice the following

- It seems to be located in ehome folder on my computer

- It seems it runs twice a day and everytime it runs my internet connection log shows connection to a microsoft ip address for "tv download" or some such, so thinking its not a virus

2. Seems that it does not always run. I will get these connections everyday, twice a day for a few week or so, then not get any for days.

Currently I seem to not get any activity, right after the Silver light update on 9/1/10. I don't use the TV function on my computer, but just wondering what this is and why it only runs sometimes

Hi,

Check this for Mcupdate

Description of the scheduled tasks in Windows Vista
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/939039

mcupdate.exe - Utilities - Vista
http://www.greatis.com/vista/Utilities/m/mcupdate.exe.htm

Another method would be to Search for Mcupdate.exe and when found Right Click - Properties -
Details tab.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

The link works here though it could be glitch or malware if you can't reach a Microsoft site. Try
it again, and if no joy try seeing if you can reach http://www.microsoft.com

The 2nd link describes the file so unless it has been replaced by malware here is the information.
It updating would be normal.
