I am trying to fix a friend's computer. They are getting this error, I found a hot fix and downloaded it. Heading over there tomorrow and need to know how to apply it while the machine is at blue screen?
If there is an applicable Hotfix the KB article will have information and support options.
Normally you would copy the Hotfix to the drive and either Right Click on and RUN AS ADMIN, double
click on it, or there may be other options on the Right Click depending on the extension of the Hotfix.
This Bug_Check is very often a hardware issue however it can be caused by antivirus/
antispyware/security and other causes. You might be able to correct it with a System
Restore in Safe Mode (repeatedly tap F8 as you boot the computer) - see the System
Restore below. If the cause is hardware then of course that has to be corrected.
Bug Check 0x51: REGISTRY_ERROR
The REGISTRY_ERROR bug check has a value of 0x00000051. This indicates that a severe registry error has occurred.
Important Information If You Have Received a STOP Code
If you have received a blue screen error, or stop code, the computer has shut down abruptly to protect itself from data loss. A hardware device, its driver, or related software might have caused this error. If your copy of Windows came with your computer,
call the manufacturer of your computer. If you purchased Windows separately from your computer, Microsoft provides support. To find contact information for Microsoft or your computer manufacturer,
Contact Support.
The following actions might prevent an error like this from happening again:
Download and install updates and device drivers for your computer from Windows Update.
Scan your computer for computer viruses.
Check your hard disk for errors.
REGISTRY_ERROR Parameters
The following parameters are displayed on the blue screen.

Something has gone wrong with the registry. If a kernel debugger is available, get a stack trace.
This error may indicate that the registry encountered an I/O error while trying to read one of its files. This can be caused by hardware problems or file system corruption.
It may also occur due to a failure in a refresh operation, which is used only in by the security system, and then only when resource limits are encountered.

Also do this so you can see the likely bluescreens.
Here are some methods to possibly fix the blue screen issue. If you could give the Blue Screen
info that would help. Such as the BCC and the other 4 entries on the lower left. And any other
error information such as STOP codes and info such as IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL or PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA and similar messages.

Many BlueScreens are caused by old or corrupted drivers, especially video drivers however
there are other causes.
You can do these in Safe Mode if needed or from Command Prompt from Vista DVD or
Recovery Options if your system has that installed by the maker.
How to analyze the log file entries that the Microsoft Windows Resource Checker (SFC.exe) program
generates in Windows Vista cbs.log (and Windows 7) http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928228
The log might give you the answer if there was a corrupted driver. (Does not tell all the possible
driver issues).
Also run CheckDisk so we can rule out corruption as much as possible.
