Unless Gmail provides an exchange type mail account as far as I'm concerned its a non starter

Not helped by the fact that Gmail/IMAP does not conform to the IMAP protocols

Do some internet searches to find independent articles that compare the 2 (or 3) suites. The technet articles are created by MS, with obvious bias.

"Outperforms" how?!? ...

Exactly what do you want to with these applications?

.

What features / functions do you want vs NEED to use. Create a list of desired vs required tasks in a table or spreadsheet, and identify specific features/functions in each suite that can perform the specific tasks.

MS Office is the "industry standard" so your users are more likely to already be familiar with them. So G-Suite will have a built in learning curve, and probably user resistance.

One obvious significant difference is that while Office 365 can be installed locally on computers and used without internet connections, to the best of my knowledge G-suite cannot.

If you need to use locally installed applications, you could also look at LibreOffice.
