Number of tile rows on Start Screen

Hi everybody,

This morning when I started my surface, I found 4 rows of tiles in my start screen. And I kinda liked it. But after flipping the screen from landscape to portrait then from portrait back to landscape, I found that my start screen has only 3 rows of tiles.

I looked around on the web, and there's no tool that allows to customize this number. Even using REGEDIT.

Does anyone have an idea how to change it. The 4 rows start screen is perferct for me.

Thanks in advance.

Answer
It should support 4 rows at 1366x768.  This chart's a good reference: http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/2690-start-screen-metro-apps-change-number-rows-windows-8-a.html

Try setting the MonitorSize key indicated in this KB to a larger screen size:

Note that the Scaling registry key is not present by default, and will need to be created.

This didn't work. 😞

It should work - at least it does on my Surface.  Here is my exact reg value:

.reg begin -->

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Scaling]
"MonitorSize"="15.4"

<-- end

Reboot after adding the reg value.

One more thing - after doing this, flip to portrait mode, swipe Settings -> Tiles -> "Show more tiles" to enable a total of 9 rows in portrait.

Note that this only affects the modern ui; and, only scales to the minimum permittable font scaling for the actual resolution.

Did this solve your problem?

Sorry this didn't help.

Great! Thanks for marking this as the answer.
