Surface RT Video Playback Issues After Firmware Update

I have seen numerous people with this issue.

As soon as I install the latest firmware update video playback shows compression artifacts in almost all videos. Some lower quality MP4 videos seem to play okay.

No graphical issues in any games or other apps that demand a lot of graphics processing.

All apps up to date, this is definitely related to the firmware update, i've refreshed the machine a number of times to test and it's every time the firmware update is applied that the problem comes back.

Let's get an official answer on this asap please?

Greetings Danieltharris,

We are aware of a problem with certain applications after the display driver update that occurred in May. We are working to resolve this issue. Thank you for the passion you've shown for Surface. Stay tuned for more information.

Hi Steven,

Thanks for the prompt reply.

I noticed the threads you linked to are discussing the Surface Pro, but I am seeing the issue on Surface RT.

Can you confirm there is a known issue with Surface RT after the firmware update and not just Surface Pro?

Many Thanks

Greetings Danieltharris,

Are you seeing this issue on Windows RT 8.0, or have you upgraded to the 8.1 preview on your Surface?

This happens in Windows RT 8.0 when the latest firmware is applied.

The problem does not go away on a Surface RT updated to the 8.1 Preview though.

Greetings Danieltharris,

Thanks for following up with me. When you are watching the video's, are you streaming them or playing locally? Can you confirm that you are watching the video's in Xbox Video?
Do you see the same issue in streaming apps like Netflix?

Greetings Carlos and Daniel,

Instead of doing the Refresh, have you tried doing a full Reset on your Surface RT, taking all Windows Updates, and all Windows Store updates then trying again to see if the video playback is still incorrect?

Escene 1:
Restore the surface with usb key, reinstall Windows RT and test netflix.
Work great, without artifact or pixelated.
Escene 2:
With escene 1 install only KB2849636 and KB2756872 and the problem come back, i have a poor image from netflix.

I get the same result as above. Can we get acknowledgment from Microsoft that this is an issue and that we will get a fix soon?
