My surface type cover keyboard does not work

I read many complains about the surface type cover keyboard.  I need your help and I dont find any solution

My cover keyboard stopped working on 14 September 2018 after a Windows update. I turned the device on... keyboard working.... I watched it install firmware and a few patches.... the keyboard no longer works.

This is definitely NOT a hardware fault - unless Microsoft are saying that our devices are running older hardware which is no longer supported?

Or, playing devil's advocate here, is it a ruse to generate revenue by making devices appear to be defective?

I will add, that there is no device driver listed in Device Manager.

Surface Pro 4? Surface Pro 3? You mention typecover, but posted in Surface Book
which does not have a "type cover".

Ok, now that I've restarted my computer, yet again....

The backlight on my keyboard does not seem to be working. When I detach the screen, and reattach, I get an error message that a USB device is not recognized. I don't know what happened in the middle of my last post. That was the first time that the keyboard did that. It seemed like a key was stuck.

try a two button reset:

Step 1:    Press and hold the power button on your Surface for 30 seconds and then
release it.

Step 2:    Press and hold the volume-up button and the power button at the same
time for at least 15 seconds and then release both.

The screen may flash the Surface logo, but continue holding the buttons
down for at least 15 seconds.

Step 3:    After you release the buttons, wait 10 seconds.

Step 4:    Press and release the power button to turn your Surface back on. You
should see the Surface logo.

Function keys F1 and F2 should adjust the keyboard backlight, and you may need
to toggle the Fn key.

Do I start with my computer on, or off? Or does it not matter?

I tried it with the PC on and off. Both times it lead me to the Surface UEFI. The restart/reset does help when the mouse/keyboard stops responding. Yet, when I put the computer to sleep, and then wake it back up, I have the same problems. I get the USB error I mentioned earlier, and the trackpad and keyboard stop working. At no point does my keyboard backlight start working. Should I try reverting to prior to the latest Windows update?
