Surface Dock with 24" Apple Cinema display

If I plug my Apple 24" Cinema display directly into the mini display port on my surface book, it works.  If I plug the display into the surface dock, I get no output.   Is this display supported or is there an adapter I can use to get it to work?

Thanks,

Shawn

Forgive me for the obvious - but I assume that you have ensured that the display port is ending a signal by means of Display Settings or Action Centre Project settings?

It doesn't show up in display settings and I'm not aware of where it would show up in action center.

Go to Action Centre and press PROJECT, it may be showing PC Screen only - if so, select Duplicate or Extend as desired and see if that works...

I selected "Project", then "Extend" or "Duplicate", but it didn't do anything.  I then clicked off the project flyout and went into display settings again, selected "Detect Displays"  still nothing.  I have the latest firmware.  Is the monitor not supported or is my new Surface Dock faulty?  -Thanks

I also have a 24" cinema display and the mini display works fine when plugged into my surface book, but it does not work when plugged into my surface dock.  Oddly I have a 27" cinema display (it has 3 cables out the back power, usb, and mini-display just like my 24") and that DOES work in my surface dock.

It seems like there is a difference between active display adapters and passive. Perhaps the 27" has active and the 24" is passive?

Microsoft do you have a compatibility list? I would not have purchased this surface dock had I known that my monitor would not work on it.

What's worse is that you can't plug the monitor into the surfacebook when the dock power is plugged in.  What??  I ended up buying this: https://www.amazon.com/Kanex-Extension-Display-24-Inch-27-Inch/dp/B0045I85FA and shaved one side of the connection.   It's inconvenient to have to plug 2 things into the laptop to dock it.

Also, I have a 27 thunderbolt display which doesn't work through the dock or directly plugged into the surfacebook.  For those that have apple displays who want to replace their MacBook with a surfacebook, the surface dock is pretty disappointing.  You would think this would have been a priority in the design.

Hi,

Let's get this resolved by following the steps on how to Troubleshoot Surface Dock and docking stations.

Make sure that the Dock is updated by updating it using the Surface Dock updater. You can also check this article about connecting Surface to a TV, Monitor or Projector.

Let us know how it goes.

Regards.

This still isn't working.  I'd really like to know if my monitors are supported.   They are 24" apple cinema, and 27" thunderbolt.

Windows should be compatible with your monitors, however, the Surface hardware itself is not.

Now, since you are using an active adapter which is the Surface Dock, the monitors could work since it's not included in the list of known monitors that does not work with the Surface Dock. We suggest that you follow the steps on this article.

If after following the steps and your monitors are still not working with your Surface, please contact our Surface Answer Desk team for further assistance.

Regards.

I have already tried these things.  "The Surface hardware itself is not".  Unless someone here can prove otherwise, connecting apple monitors to the surface dock does not work.
