Windows 11 Remote Desktop App (NOT MSTSC.EXE, the one from the app store) doesn't seem to support dual monitors.

I prefer the app store app for RDP because it lets you manage multiple sessions. I also prefer it because it streams better. From my Mac I can remote to my home PC and use both of my 4k monitors in all of their glory using the Microsoft Remote Desktop app. However, from my windows machine I cannot use both screens. Unless I fall back to the less desirable approach of using mstsc.exe.

So the question is this... Is adding support for a dual monitor configuration ever going to come to the windows store app.

MSTSC.EXE is NOT what I'm asking about.

Remote Desktop App (Windows 11) IS what I'm asking about.

And the OSX version for reference.

It genuinely seems strange to me that MS would have this product for Windows 11 that is weaker than the same product for OSX and drops features that were in the legacy product. I asked this question once before regarding Windows 10 at the time and was given answers for MSTSC as a response. I just left it because it wasn't that important to me. However, I'd really like to use 2 monitors on the newer client, so help me out if there is a special sauce that I'm missing out on.

Hi Jonathan Blackburn

We appreciate your post on Microsoft Community. I understand your concern regarding the Remote Desktop App from the Microsoft Store not supporting dual monitors. Currently, the Remote Desktop App from the Microsoft Store does not support dual monitors. However, Microsoft is constantly working on improving their products and services, and it is possible that this feature may be added in the future. In the meantime, you can continue to use the MSTSC.exe application to utilize dual monitors.

You can use the Feedback Hub app to send feedback to Microsoft engineering team about any problems you run into while using Windows 11. Here are the steps to send feedback using the Feedback Hub app:

Open the Feedback Hub app by doing one of the following:

  • Select Start, enter Feedback Hub in the search bar, and select the Feedback Hub app from the list.

  • Press the Windows logo key + F. This will take a screenshot and open the Feedback Hub app, automatically uploading the screenshot to the Feedback tab.

  • Sign in to your Microsoft account to take advantage of the full functionality of the Feedback Hub app. If you prefer not to sign in, you can still give feedback.

  • On the Feedback tab, you can see if someone has already submitted the same report and upvote it or submit a new report. You can even attach screenshots or record the process that led to the problem to help Microsoft see what you’re experiencing.

Thank you for your understanding.

Kind regards,

Christopher.

Try using this version of the client, installed via MSI instead of the ms app store: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-desktop/users/connect-windows?pivots=remote-desktop-msi#download-and-install-the-remote-desktop-client-msi

then once connecting as usual, right click on your remote and select 'settings' > uncheck "Use default settings" and select displays.

I'm not 100% clear on the differences between the two versions of the apps, but as far as I can tell they can access the same types of connections (eg, devboxes).

MS.

It is rather peculiar that Apple version of YOUR app works better than YOUR app

Can you please reply to the following:

(1) When are you planning to fix this issue?

(2) Is it possible to use MSTSC.ex? I am using a rdweb - feed discovery so I have NO access to an IP.

(3) I cannot even use my camera on the remote session - fixing permissions does not seem to rectify the issue.

(4) The mac version I only subscribed to the URL once and since all is good. On the PC version I often need to subscribe 2 times a day.

Guys this is UNACCEPTABLE and an EMBARASHMENT.

Honestly. It is like you are pushing people to MACs

I will do a little survey on twitter to gather user experiences to gather collectively responses.

Can you please reply ASAP

It is incredible that you have not responded with the simplest answer:

Use of AZURE VIRTUAL DESKTOP app that support multiple screens (you cannot turn them off just lol)
