This device cannot start. (Code 10) STATUS_DEVICE_POWER_FAILURE. Front camera not working

Hi, my front camera on my Microsoft Surface Go suddenly stopped working, and I get this error code. Would appreciate any advice. I've already tried:

  • Updating the drivers
  • Disabling and re-enabling the camera
  • Updating windows from settings and the manufacturers website
  • Deleting and recreating registry files

Below is a print-screen of the issue:

Hi, GeorgiaKL!

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Community and posting your concerns. We are sorry to learn you have issues with your Surface Go's front camera. Thanks for taking the time to let us know about this and allowing us to help you out. Do you have the Surface Go or Surface GO LTE Advanced? Also, may we know if you went to this page to guide you when Camera doesn't work in Windows 10?

When you say you disabled/re-enabled the camera, is it through the Surface UEFI? If not, kindly do this after performing the steps below:

·         Check for Windows Update:

Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Check for Updates

Please restart your device to apply the updates.

·         Run Surface Diagnostic Toolkit and make sure to complete the tasks.

·         Force shutdown the device and restart.

  1. Press and hold the power button until the screen turns off (about 10 seconds), then release the power button.
  2. Press and release the power button to turn your Surface back on. You should see the Microsoft logo.

If that doesn't work, here's how to make sure your Surface turns off completely:

Press and hold down the power button until your Surface restarts and you see the Windows logo screen (about 20 seconds), then release the power button.

If the steps above didn't help, please check Surface UEFI.

  1. Select Start  Settings  > Update & security  > Recovery.
  2. Under Advanced startup, select Restart Now.
  3. Under Choose an option, select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > UEFI Firmware Settings, and then select Restart.
  4. Click on Devices, toggle off and on both Front Camera and IR Camera.
  5. Click on Exit, then Restart.

We hope this helps you out. If this answers your question, please let our Community know by marking this post as an answer. Otherwise, don't hesitate to respond to this thread if there’s anything else that needs to be addressed.

Kind regards,

Janette_Z

Hello,

Thank you for your reply. It's just a Surface Go. Yes I did go to that page, and I have tried to reset via UFEI, as well as performing updates and running the diagnostic toolkit - nothing has helped so far!

Do you have any other advice?

All the best,

Georgia

Hi, GeorgiaKL!

Thanks for the response. We're sorry if the steps above didn't work. Have you tried installing the driver pack for your device?

Go to Downloaddriver and firmware for Surface, choose Surface Go then click Download on the next page.

Choose the .msi file that matches your current OS Build and click Next.

If it doesn’t match, please choose the one that is near your current OS Build.

After downloading, run and install the .msi then Restart.

If that doesn't work, you may try to do a Fresh Start:

Fresh Start is the least intrusive form of reset.
You will not lose any files or personal information.
You will need to reinstall desktop programs.
Fresh Start also ensures you have has all available updates once complete.
If there is an issue with Windows itself, the issue may still occur after a Fresh Start.

Let me know how it went.

Regards,

Janette_Z

Hello again,

I've tried the driver pack and have just finished doing a Fresh Start - sadly I'm getting the same errors as before! Do you have any other advice?

All the best,

Georgia
