Surface Pro 9 Screen dimming and brightening semi randomly

Hi

A somewhat happy owner of the new Surface Pro 9 but I've noticed that when on battery, my screen keeps dimming and then returning back to its original brightness.

The dimming will last a few seconds and it is somewhat random and not related to the ambient brightness. While in a word document, it will be fine and then when I stop typing, the screen will dim for a second and then go back to normal. Not always but I seem to be able to recreate the issue about 9 out of 10 times.

If I switch off adaptive brightness, I no longer have the problem but it seems odd that I would have this problem.

As anyone experienced the same or similar and is there a workaround other than switching off adaptive brightness (I use it with my other devices without any issues..)

many thanks

Hi caleeeb,

Thank you for reaching Microsoft Community. We're sorry for the inconvenience this has caused you.

Adaptive brightness control is a feature that helps your system in adjusting the screen brightness based on the content that's displayed on your screen. For example, if you’re watching a video that has a dark scene, followed by a brighter scene (for example, one that shows a bright sunny day), the brightness and contrast may change. This is normal.

Content adaptive brightness control provides ideal brightness and contrast levels, while saving power and providing longer battery life at the same time. If these sudden brightness changes are distracting, or if you work in photo and video apps where color accuracy is important to you, you can turn this off any time. When you turn it off, it can result in shorter battery life.

Kind regards,

Lavenia

Mine does the same thing and its so annoying. Even if I have it set to night mode, it just goes back to full brightness and completely forget its suppose to be in night mode.

Extreamly annoyed. Does not happen on my apple device.

Did anyone ever find out the answer??? MS forums keep saying turn off adaptive brightnes/contrast, but they're already off and it keeps happening.

I just purchased my surface pro 9, love it but have the same issue with screen brightness. I turned off adaptive brightness and it still happens.

Is it a hardware fault ? Can i change the setup or do I return it for a refund

Exactly the same problem here on my one day old surface pro 9.

Already very annoying and evidently no answer or solution provided by Microsoft.

Quick google search shows the problem has been going on for 3-4 years will no resolution.

Poor.

I'm experiencing the same issue on two different Surface Pro 9s. It does appear to be a Microsoft issue isolated to the Surface Pro 9. Very annoying. The issue doesn't occur on my Surface Laptop Studio.
