surface pro 8: very poor battery life

Battery on my surface pro 8 (less than 2 years old) lasts a maximum of 5 hours (certainly no where near a working day). I've been advised by microsoft that the battery is not part of their warranty. Is this true?

Hi Matt_7787

We appreciate your active participation in the Microsoft Community. I'm sorry to hear that your Surface Pro 8's battery life isn't working well. Microsoft offers a one-year guarantee that covers defects in workmanship and materials from the date of purchase. However, a variety of factors, such as usage patterns, settings, and ambient conditions, might affect battery life.

The Surface Pro 8 is designed to offer impressive battery life. According to Microsoft’s official specifications, it can provide up to 16 hours of battery life based on typical usage. However, it seems that your device is falling significantly short of that estimate.

If you're experiencing significantly reduced battery life, there are a few things you can try to improve it. First, make sure that your Surface is running the latest updates and firmware. You can check for updates by going to Settings > Windows Update> check for updates.

You can also try adjusting your power settings to optimize battery life. Go to Settings > System > Power and choose a power mode that balances performance and battery life. You can also adjust individual settings, such as screen brightness and sleep settings, to further optimize battery life.

If you've tried these steps and are still experiencing poor battery life, it may be worth contacting Microsoft Live support to see if there are any other options available to you.

Battery Coverage: Regrettably, the standard warranty does not explicitly include protection against battery degradation. Batteries are categorized as consumable parts, and their performance naturally diminishes over time. If your Surface Pro 8’s battery is not operating as anticipated, it may not fall within the coverage of the standard warranty. However, there is an alternative available for battery repair or device replacement.

Thanks for the information Christopher. I've been through lots of trouble shooting with Microsoft and there is nothing they can do to improve the length of time the laptop can operate between charges. Given it was less than two years' old when I first raised this with Microsoft, my only option is to either pay microsoft more money to replace the battery (zero chance of that happening) or to stop buying microsoft hardware (the easy fix).

Thanks again.

Hi Matt_7787

I understand your frustration regarding the battery life of your Microsoft laptop. I appreciate all the steps that you done to further fix the issue. Based on our thread I would like to know if you already download and install the recovery image on your Surface device. If not, please follow the steps below.

To Download USB Recovery Image - http://aka.ms/sri

REQUIREMENTS:

To ensure compatibility with your Surface device, it is recommended to use a USB flash drive with a minimum storage capacity of 16 GB to 32 GB and format it to FAT32. If the storage capacity exceeds 32 GB, it is not possible to format it to FAT32 as only XFAT and NTFS options are available. Please note that if a USB flash drive is formatted to XFAT or NTFS, it will not be detected on your Surface device.

NOTE: Creating a recovery drive will erase all existing files that are stored on the SSD drive. Make sure to transfer any important data on your USB flash drive to another storage device before you proceed.

Once the download is complete, create a folder on your desktop and rename it to ‘recovery’. Extract the recovery image to the folder you created on your desktop. After the extraction is complete, select all the files in the folder and copy and paste them directly to your USB flash drive. Do not copy the folder directly to the USB. Once the copying is done, remove the USB and connect it to your Surface.

When you are ready, please click this link Creating and using a USB recovery drive for Surface - Microsoft Support to follow the step on how to use the recovery image.

However, you have already done all these steps and have the same issue. The other option aside from the out of warranty option is to check in the Microsoft store for the upgrade option they offer. Shop Certified Refurbished Computers & Game Consoles by Surface and Xbox - Microsoft Store. You save a lot, and this device came with a one-year warranty. You can also click this link Microsoft Trade In & Recycling Program - Microsoft Store.

Thank you for your understanding.

Kind regards.

Christopher
