Apparently this problem has been going on for some time with others!! I just bought this device and a month into ownership MS replaced it with a new one--same problem.
Is the only option to return it for a refund, get a refurb or keep it and deal with having to restart it every 10 - 30 min if you want to use the pen or touchscreen?
@Microsoft will this be fixed anytime soon?

I have the same issue as everyone else, and I've tried all of these things, too.
Please, Microsoft, fix....

Same problem here. Tried all steps mentioned in the troubleshoot, still broken. Thought it might be a hardware problem so I got it replaced. A few months later, same problem with the new device. Microsoft, this has been going on for months... just... how?
I believe that, this is a touch screen hardware problem. I was fortunate enough to get a replacement SP7. It works fine.
I find that it is important not to use fingers or any tool to wipe screen's dusts or dirt when the screen is ON. Such actions may generate static charges which harm the touch screen. Always turn off the computer before wiping or cleaning the touch screen.

Thanks for your reply. What doesn't make sense to me is that more static charges should be produced when the device is on. I would expect charges to build up (e.g. by friction) regardless of the device's power state. But maybe Microsoft's design is indeed flawed and susceptible to electrostatic discharge. That would explain why they can't fix it with an update.
I guess I'll try to have it replaced again.

Hi all,
I had a similar problem and tried everything (updating drivers, etc.). My surface pro 7 screen works in UEFI mode, so I think it's a software issue on my end. Every time I'd use the surface, the touch screen would stop working at a certain point, both with touch and pen. Only restarting the surface would get them working again. I'm using a surface slim pen. I finally noticed that when I'd uninstall the "Surface Pen Cfu Over Ble LC Connection" driver, the pen and touch screen would work better. I've finally rolled back this driver, and things seem to be working better.
