I have the surface pro 7 regular with only 128 gig storage so its really important to me that I can add extra storage without needing a usb stick sticking out the side of the laptop. However, the reader seems to not work. I had just reinstalled windows (fresh) and all drivers under USB in device manager seem to be the newest. I know the card is working because in an adapter it works when plugged into a dongle. The card can "click" into the slot but the surface just doesn't read it. BIOS/UFBI shows it to be on though. Please help because there are someapps I really need installed but the internal storage isn't enough.

Hello, Wilbert Xi.
Welcome to Microsoft Community!
After reading your description, I understand that you are trying to expand storage for your Surface Pro 7. Your SD card slot does not seem to be able to be read correctly by the device after inserting the card.
What I would like to confirm with you is whether or not you were able to find an option related to this additional SD card in the Device Manager?
Also, you may want to check the Disk Management interface to see if you are able to locate the additional disk area.
Press Win + X on your keyboard and select “Disk Management” in the pop-up menu.
You can also share the relevant screenshots with me and I can assist you in analyzing them together.
The above steps can help us confirm if this is a hardware issue originating from the card slot.
I am looking forward to your further reply here and always support you.
Best Regards.

Hello, Wilbert Xi.
Thanks for your reply.
From the image you provided, it does appear that there is no SD card related visualization option.
We will troubleshoot this issue at both driver level and hardware level.
Missing drivers may cause this to happen, please try to manually obtain the driver and firmware installer for your Surface Pro 7 to troubleshoot potential driver issues and maintain device performance:
Download Surface Pro 7 Drivers and Firmware from Official Microsoft Download Center
Please reboot your device after the download is complete to apply the driver update.
The above steps are usually effective if the problem stems from the driver.
The issue was able to be resolved after the driver related to SD card reading was fixed.
If the problem persists, it is necessary for us to consider the hardware of the SD card slot. Since I am not around to assist you directly with debugging your device, I recommend that you contact the Surface Technical Support team for more effective hardware service.
I will share with you the steps to create a service order:
Open the Surface App (usually built into your Surface device, or you can download it from the Microsoft Store if you don't have one) and follow the procedure below:
Click "Help and Support" and then click "Get Help".
Briefly describe your problem in the text box, such as "SD card slot not working", and then press Enter.
Click "Contact Support" at the bottom.
Select "Technical Support" and click "Confirm".
You will see "Chat support" and "phone support" options, please contact them during working hours, you will get one-to-one support services.
We want your equipment issues to be handled properly.
I wish you all the best.
Best Regards.
