Surface Pro 6 TPM activation failure

I was trying to install Win11 on my surface Pro 6, but the TPM is not activated.

So I was opening the UEFI by Restart an pressing the volume up button. When I try to turn the TPM on, there appears a blue window, with the following error message: „The System failed to change the state of the TPM. Please reboot the system to try again.“

I have Rebooted the system many times an had tried it very often. The UEFI Firmware is all up to date.

What can I do to turn of the TPM Module?

Thanks for helping.

Hello FHahn99,

Thanks for reaching Microsoft Community. We're sorry to know that you've encountered a problem activating the TPM on your device.

Just to confirm, did you also check the TPM Management console on your device? If not, press Windows logo key + R to open Run command, then type "tpm.msc" and Enter. Send us a screenshot of your TPM Management console here for us to see it's status.

Otherwise, you can also use the Windows Security app. Go to Settings Update & Security > Windows Security > Device Security.

  • If you do not see a Security processor section on this screen your PC may have a TPM that is disabled. see How to enable TPM for more information or check your PC manufacturer’s support information for instructions. to enable the TPM. If you are able to enable a TPM, complete the next step to verify that it is a TPM 2.0.

  • If you see an option for Security processor details under Security processor, select that and verify that your Specification version is 2.0.

Please don't hesitate to respond to this thread if there’s anything else that needs to be addressed.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Best regards,

StevenK

Microsoft IS the manufacturer and you should know that Surface Pro 6 is TPM 2.0 (and you could look it up if for some reason you don't):

Hello StevenK,

In Windows tpm.msc I can’t see anything because in UEFI the TPM isn‘t activated.

The problem is that I can’t activate it in the UEFI.

Thanks for helping.

Best regards

Thanks for keeping us posted, FHahn99.

May we know what edition of Windows you have?

If you have Windows 10 Pro, please check if BitLocker is enabled on your device. By going to search bar, and type "Manage BitLocker" and enter. If you see the word "On", then it's enabled. Try disabling it, and reattempt to activate the TPM.

Otherwise, if you have Windows 10 Home, check the BitLocker status by opening Command prompt (admin) then type and Enter below command:

manage-bde -status

manage-bde -off C:

Afterwards, reattempt to activate TPM in UEFI.

Hope this helps.
