Surface Pro 3 - Battery indicator stuck at 99%.

Hello

On my Surface Pro 3 (i5, 8GB Ram, 256GB) my battery indicator have been stuck at 99% for the past 2(?) months now. I was hoping the new set of firmware updates would resolve this issue but unfortunately they did not. I have tried every solution I could find and think of e.g. recovery to Win8 and Win10. Uninstalling the ACPI battery driver. Booting using the "Volume Up + Power button" method etc. Still stuck. A thing that I noticed after doing a recovery to Win10 was that the estimated time left kept jumping around between 30min and 14 hours during idling. After upgrading to Anniversary Update the estimated time left is stuck that the first value it receives during boot and remains static. Another thing that I noticed when doing a couple of "powercfg /energy" was that the cycles on the battery sometimes increased 5-10 cycles on one discharge.

Any ideas?

Here is my battery report:

As you can see, the capacity is stuck at 35895mWh.

Hi,

I am also experiencing this issue with my SP3 (i5, 8gb, 256gb). Even after charging overnight, the surface never reaches 100%. It also never drops under 99%, even if it ends up dying due to no battery.

I have tried hard restart, battery calibration, and driver reinstallation but none of these worked. Here is most of my battery report from a bit ago:

I've sent this in to an internal contact, but they are not responding to issues
with the LGC batteries. They fixed Simplo, and it is unknown if the fix for
Simplo has created some of these issues on LGC batteries. Did this start after
the August firmware update?

Simplo is not fixed as that is what my Surface Pro 3 has. It seems like there are still issues with the battery "fuel gauge" on some Surface Pros.

the fix was for the capacity dropping to nearly nothing and not being able to
use unless plugged in. yours is a different issue. I can only suggest the
standard out of warranty exchange at this point. I've been trying without
success to get Microsoft *engineers* to respond to these types of issues in this
forum.

Hi,

The issue was present for me before the Simplo fix. I was hoping that the Simplo fix would somehow fix my issue even though my battery isn't Simplo, but the problem has remained. It is also worth noting that when I deleted all battery drivers and restarted my surface, the battery percentage started working for about 2 days before it got stuck at 99% again.

I understand your issue. I don't have any advice to offer. I've asked a contact
at Microsoft several times to post here in the forums addressing non Simplo
issues without any success. Sorry.

Thanks Barb.

I can only assume that MS does not want to acknowledge some issues and thus forbidden their engineers from engaging in these topics. The customer service provided by MS has been nothing but shameful (except for a certain MVP *wink*). Doing an out-of-warranty exchange is out of the question at this stage seeing all these unresolved battery issues along with the silence from Microsoft.

Received a mail saying that I needed to make an update to avoid having the topic being marked as resolved.

It is still an issue.

i have had identical problems as you on my Simplo Surface Pro 3.  Estimated times get stuck...the battery level doesn't move for over 10 minutes on battery..sometimes crazy values like 14h ..On my Surface if you reboot when it is stuck at 99% or at another level , it will go to 100% charged.  You can also simply disable the battery in Device Manager and re-enable it and it will also go to 100% Charged.

My Surface was stopping at 99%, 97% , 96% and now it seems that 95% is the favored value.  I'm losing more and more battery as I'm now at 30000mWH from 40000mWh just 3 months ago.  Cycles have increased rapidly with as little as 1-2 charges a week you're seeing increases of +20-25 cycle counts in the power report.  Fortunately, at least for now its not as bad as others are reporting --if you unplug from power it completely shuts down. At least mine appears to holds a reasonable charge.  but for how long?
