I'm having a problem with my surface book 2 battery. I was trying to detach the tablet/screen one day and it said that the tablet's battery was low and to charge it. I left it charging overnight and the problem still persists. Sometimes it says hardware failure in red or General Failure instead of "tablet battery is low". I've tried disconnecting the tablet with the 6 up fan hole method to clean the contacts like another thread said to do, but it didn't change anything. The Tablet also shuts down and lost all power as soon as it is manually disconnected from the base, but it will stay on if directly connected to power from the bottom of the tablet. When I produce a battery report It doesn't even detect the Tablet's battery. Please Help

Hi oliverprowse,
Thank you for reaching Microsoft Community. We're sorry for the trouble this has caused you.
May I know when this issue started?
Was there any changes you made prior to this happen?
When your able to detach the keyboard using the 6 up fan hole method, were you able to charge the tablet itself? see photo below.
Note : We don't recommend to force the Surface Book apart from the keyboard as it may risks damaging the clips, the connector, and/or the base.
For the meantime, try to do the following steps below.
Force the device to shut down and restart
Press and hold down the power button until your Surface shuts down and restarts and you see the Windows logo screen (about 20 seconds), then release the power button.
Check Windows Updates and Run Surface Diagnostic Toolkit
Go to Settings >> Update and Security >> Windows updates >> Check for updates
SDT : See: Fix common Surface problems using the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit (microsoft.com)
I have found similar thread having the same error on the detach icon and one of the user able to fix it. I suggest you try this and see if it helps General failure on detach icon - Microsoft Community.
Manually update Drivers and firmware for your Surface.
Check what is the current OS Build of your Windows version. On the search box type Winver and hit the enter key.
Go to Download driver and firmware for Surface, choose Surface Book. Then click the link next to Surface Book 2 then click Download on the next page. Choose the .msi file that matches your current OS Build and click Next. After downloading, run and install the .msi then Restart.
Let me know how it goes.
Kind regards,
Lavenia

Thanks for responding Lavenia. The problem started happening in mid May, just after the warranty expired.
As for the method I was talking about, it's when you count 6 fan holes upwards from the bottom left and right corners of the tablet and stick a pin in the 6th, this releases the mechanism mechanically that holds the tablet on. Sorry I didn't explain that clearly.
Yes I was able to plug in the tablet from the bottom as shown, but as soon as I would unplug it would shut down with 0% power. It's almost as if the tablets battery isn't there.
I will perform the steps you told me tonight after I get home from school. Hopefully this clarification helps.
