Red bar across display

So I havent used my Surface Book in a couple of weeks. I took just the screen with me to work today and there was a red column down the left side of the screen.

First I tried to restart the device. The bar is present at start-up but it was a different color this this time.

Next I tried to update the graphics drivers. No luck there.

I took a screenshot and the bar is not present in the captured image.

All this leads me to believe that there is a hardware issue however, there is no visible damage to the device and like I said, its been sitting in a drawer.

Touch  works in the discolored section of the screen.

If anyone knows a fix for this I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

It looks as though you've tried to select something on the desktop and now it is stuck in that mode.

Have you tried to select a different area on the screen?  That may cause it to redraw and forget about the existing bar.

What happens if you remove the Clipboard and then rotate the screen?  If the bar moves, then likely it is some sort of software issue.  If it doesn't move, that would again indicate a potential hardware problem.

You might also want to change resolutions to see if that has any impact.  I would also recommend starting in safe mode to see what that might do.

So many bits, so little time...

Thanks for your feedback.

It definitely ended up being a hardware problem. Microsoft is replacing my device.
