Dear All,

I Have use my serial no. before to download a recovery image from Microsoft website, but at this time, i return to download it again, and it returns invalid Serial Number !

I don't know what is happening, i just enter the same serial number, as engraved on the back of my surface book.

Please help me to know the problem.

Regards and thanks in advance.

Hi Naviid Ghasemi,

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Community and posting your inquiry.

The Serial Number of Surface Devices are usually 12-digit numbers. You can also find the Serial Number on your settings. Select Start Settings System About > On this page, find Windows Specifications, and look for your Serial number.

For reference, use this article "Find the serial number on Surface devices".

Dear John

I have my serial number, as below:

You can test it again and i am sure you will received invalid serial number, too.

I don't know may my serial number changed from what is written on the back of my laptop? I don’t think so. If you have any other idea, please explain to me.

Thanks.

I have removed the PII for privacy purposes. It could be that you're using the keyboard serial number of the Surface Book. The Surface Book keyboards have separate Serial Numbers from the screen itself.

Look on the bottom edge of the Clipboard where it attaches to the keyboard. You'll need to disconnect the screen from the base. The serial number should be on the connector part.

If the device still turns on, try getting the SN through CMD. Go to the search bar > search for command prompt > right-click then open as administrator > Type this command: wmic bios get serialnumber.
