Microsoft surface laptop trackpad (popped out)

Hi,

My trackpad popped out and I am just wondering if there is a quick fix to this issue. The trackpad is still able to soft click and move the cursor, but dragging and hard clicking does not work. I would rather not have to send it away for this small issue. If there is a solution I would appreciate the help.

Thank you. Image

Hi BrandonFillmore1

Thank you for reaching out Microsoft Community and for uploading the photo.

May I know what happen?

Was there some point that the device been dropped?

This may need a physical technician to return back to its normal state. I would suggest to visit a local Microsoft store for further assistance.

Check this link to locate the stores nearby.

Hi, I had this problem come up a couple months ago (after my warranty expired). I carry it in a case in my backpack and dry clean my Surface Laptop often and carefully. I went online to figure out how much it would cost to repair the trackpad at my local Microsoft Store, and I was quoted almost $500--nothing else was wrong with it besides the trackpad popping out. I looked up related forums to see if anyone had luck with MS Customer Support, this one frustrated me: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/surface/forum/all/surface-laptop-1-trackpad-popped-out/19d73add-cd3f-42ca-8b08-bd2496ffde16?page=2. That's infuriating, I decided to not even try going down the hole of tech help--how can your own store not carry the tools to replace your laptop, and how can you even release a product designed like this? I looked up how to repair it myself and found this beautiful video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xAI6yIZI3rg

. I decided that I couldn't go third party because of how difficult it is to replace, and I definitely wouldn't be able to fix it myself.

Looked like there was no help from Microsoft and there's no safe way to do this myself, so I decided I would just have to deal with not hard-clicking anymore. I taped up the end that was exposed in order to prevent debris from entering (I'm a broke college kid). My luck ran out today when my cursor became unresponsive, leading me to research this topic once again. It took me 30 minutes to type this because my cursor keeps highlighting items and moving around, I'll have to disable my trackpad and just rely on my mouse from now on. Since your warranty is good, just get it replaced ASAP; if you don't, you probably only have a few months left.

Don't buy the Surface Laptop, and don't buy the Surface Laptop 2. They have similar problems, especially when it comes to disassembly https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eShF-PFQfAk

. Not sure who thought it was a good idea to make the laptop impossible to disassemble, but who actually decided it was okay to do it AGAIN? I thought Apple was supposed to be the inoperable computer, not you guys.

**Just disabled my trackpad to allow me to finish my complaint, and I didn't even realize how much my cursor had clicked. I'd remove it, but it makes me happy. Unlike this laptop.

I had the same problem. Just buy a wireless mouse if you don't already have one, that's the best solution.
