How is your battery life on the Surface Pro 7?

I upgraded to the Surface Pro 7 - 8gb, 256GB from the SP4 8gb, 256GB. My SP4 hardly got an hour of battery and would shut off on battery without warning, so I constantly had it plugged into the wall wherever I went.  I was hoping for much better on the SP7. Currently I am struggling to get a full 5 hours...closer to 4 hours.

Yes, I know I use Chrome and Edge, a number of Office windows open, might watch some YouTube and Netflix.

4 to 5 hours seems pathetically small.

Any other comments, suggestions or comparisons? (I know there's a need to 'bed in' a new battery in, I've had the laptop almost 2 weeks now, the battery should be 'bedding' in by now.

thanks in advance

I purchased a SP7 i7 16GB a week ago and have been very disappointed with battery life and performance.  I would say I've also only been able to get 4-5 hours off a charge browsing online/youtube videos etc., nevermind anything more intensive for work.  I downloaded/installed all updates, ran on "battery saver" setting, changed windows visuals to "best performance", pared start-up applications down to 2, turned off background programs and any Cortana related settings and also tweaked the advanced power settings to no avail.  It also felt more sluggish working in Lightroom 6 compared to my 4 year old i7-6700 desktop...the SSD in the surface pro is noticeably slower.  When plugged in and bumping up to "best performance" the fan was far more noisy than on my 7 year old Asus K55 laptop, which I was hoping to replace.  I'm leaning towards returning the Surface Pro after reading many other comments about poor battery performance, it feels like a dud.  This machine is compact and light weight, obviously meant for mobile use, but that becomes irrelevant if the battery dies half way through the day and you have to tether to an outlet.

On a positive/unrelated note, I do like using the new surface slim pen vs. the standard model, particularly for drawing.

If anyone has any solutions for improved battery life and/or performance tips, please share.

Same here, only manage to get 4 to 5 hours (max) on a single charge.  I am using Office 365 most of time and occasion web browsing. It's very disappointing.

Mine SP7 is i5 8GB with all latest updates installed.

Same problem here with my SP7 ..I hardly get 3 hours of battery life, and when I check app usage of battery it says browser mostly chrome and edge consume the most battery.

Same problem here - I'd be lucky to get 4 hours so far.

Has anyone returned their devices for a refund yet?

My 3 year old Lenovo T series makes the Surface 7 Pro look like it's running off a button battery.

Awful battery life. Tapping out before 4 hours with a very light use (Edge, OneNote, etc).

Sending it back.

I don't think it's a driver issue. Most people on this thread, myself included get around 4-5 hours max. Not sure how they arrived at 10 hours but it must be with everything like wifi turned off and the screen on lowest brightness!

I started with the SP7 i7 and got 4-5 hours.  Returned it for an i5 thinking that less power and no fan would improve battery life.  No luck.  One tech at the Microsoft Store where I bought (and returned) both machines has seen the problem and thinks it is a programming issue that Microsoft has yet to resolve.  A salesperson at the same Microsoft store thinks I am making it all up.  Four to five hours is unacceptable for these machines, particularly as the (fabulous) form factor is made to be mobile.  Can't be very mobile with a battery that won't last through a transcontinental flight nor get me from my office to a client meeting and back.  HP Spectre x360 2-in-1 is in my future.  Less money for better components, a true edge-to-edge screen, light (but heavier than SP7) and still a good form factor.

Does the HP truly have better battery though? I've owned surfaces and surface pros since Surface RT! None of them (except probably RT) had very good battery. 4-5 hours is standard for Pro since I've been using them.

That's exactly why I purchase a 1st gen Surface RT as it had much better battery life than the Pro. I could live with the limitations once the so-called jailbreak was developed.

I am surprised to read that the newest models don't get all that great battery life though. Sometimes I wonder if I should have bought a 7 Pro instead of the Pro X, but after reading this I don't think I'll will anymore. I'm not sure if its battery life is any better than my Surface RT when new, but it seems to be good enough that I don't worry about it dying on me.
