Cracked screen, can't get free service while under warranty

My Surface Laptop 3 has the exact issue outlined in this post here:

Surface Laptop 3 cracked screen reported incidents (microsoft.com)

I was using my laptop on my desk and closed the lid before bed. I wake up the next day to a hairline crack diagonally across the screen with no crumbs or debris found inside the device. The article above shows that I should be able to get a free repair of the screen at no additional cost, but there isn't an option as such when filling out a repair request. The only option given is a $500 charge for replacement of an out-of-warranty device even though my warranty is still active.

I have tried so hard to reach a human point of contact, but everything points back to this online form that doesn't even offer me a warranty repair option. I am beyond upset at this point, and the closest in-person Best Buy repair center is too far from me. There is no reason it should be this hard to fulfill a standard request using Microsoft's only point of contact for support now.

Hello itsmikenotike,

Thanks for reaching Microsoft Community. We're sorry about what happened to your device and for the inconvenience this has caused you. Definitely not the experience we want you to have.

We understand how urgent for you to get your device replaced. We also appreciate your time in checking your options via online. But at this point, it would be best to reach out to our live support to check further options and for them to process the replacement order for you. As here in Community, we are only limited to address your concern in the Forums.

Again, we understand that you already tried contacting them but this time, please see this thread: click here for detailed instructions and I hope it helps.

Best regards,

StevenK
