COM Port Error 34

I have a surface pro 6 that I haven't used in quite a while, and I used it today but got COM Error 34, even after installing drivers from the Microsoft website, and restarting numerous times. The error message is as follows:

Windows cannot determine the settings for this device. Consult the documentation that came with this device and use the Resource tab to set the configuration. (Code 34)

If it helps, I had to show legacy devices in device manager for the COM ports to even show up.

I've also tried reinstalling windows. If anyone can help me, it would be greatly appreciated!

Hello Davie Liu,

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Community. I'm sorry to hear about this issue on your device.

If I may ask, how did you reinstall the Windows? Is it through media creation or via Settings? If you have done one of these, I'd suggest reimaging the device using its own image from Surface Recovery Image Download - Microsoft Support. This option reimages the entire device, including the partition on the hard drive. It is the most complete form of reset.  You must have at least 16GB/32GB of empty USB Flash drive and it must be formatted to FAT32 prior to downloading the Recovery Image.

To proceed, thoroughly follow the procedures in Creating and using a USB recovery drive for Surface - Microsoft Support.

Let me know how it goes. I'll wait for your response.

Regards,

StevenK

I reinstalled via settings (erased all data, since there wasnt any on the surface to begin with much).

If that's the case, please try the complete reset by reimaging the device using the recovery image for your Surface.

Let me know if that works.
