Battery drain after update

Split from this thread.

I have the same problem with my Surface pro 2017 battery life after some update on August 2019.

My battery life drop to just about 2 hours of using. I have check my device, there is no any strange activity app.

This is my battery report, and i notice that it take very short time than usual to charge my device, and of course, drop faster too.

I'd need to see the full battery report. Can you upload it to your OneDrive and share a link in a reply?

I've just reinstalled windows but does not solve the problem. This is full battery report. I'm gonna downgrade to version 1809 to see if it would help.

A better test would be to use the Surface specific recovery image and completely
reimage from that. Your battery cycles are pretty high - how long have you had
(with a different Windows computer if yours is not working properly)
and download a recovery image for your Surface. You will need a 16GB USB stick
formatted FAT32 (use a Windows computer). Use FULL format and not quick format
and give the volume a name like surfboot.. Best to use a new previously unused
USB stick for this. There are full instructions and a video at

Im backing up data to I will try your method tonight.

I reinstall Windows 10 1809 version yesterday but nothing change. The battery drop too fast and charge too fast. Its a firmware problem or battery problem? I bought this device in July 2017.

This is my charge time. It took less than an hour to charge from 25% to 100%.

Did you use the recovery image specifically for your Surface or not? If not,
please try it. The only other thing to try is to run your Surface on battery
until it shuts down on its own. Then plug it in and let it charge completely for
several hours before you use it. Do this three times. If this fails to fix the
issue, it is most likely a failing battery.

I am having the same issue.

Surface Pro 2017 i7

From 100% to 5% in less than 3 hours (maybe around 2 hours)

This problem started recently so I think it's related to the update.
