Hi Nithin,

This looks like a known issue and we are currently working on a fix. More information on this link. In the meantime, you may continue using the other version temporarily.

All the best.

Has this been resolved? I started having this same issue on 2/5/18. Skype for windows 10 connects but not skype classic. I am running the most updated version of skype classic (7.40.0.104) but it just shows spinning arrows for my status and is not connected. I can use windows 10, but prefer classic as it has more options for status, and a better video call interface.

It might fix itself if you sign out, and then back in again. I'm having issues with contacts showing as offline, though. It sucks.

Hello,

We just had the same issue at our corporate office with Skype classic not being able to connect. I'm not sure if there was another issue that Microsoft has already address but we've found a solution for our occurrence of the issue that was still ongoing.

The application was being blocked by our Geo-IP filter on our SonicWall firewall. Skype's IP ranges (shown below) were showing up as being located in Luxembourg which was blocked by default on our Geo-IP filter.

91.190.216.0 / 255.255.255.0

91.190.218.0 / 255.255.255.0

After a test performed with a Geo-IP exception for those ranges, Skype signed in with no issues. Most users have switched over to the Windows 10 App version so we didn't have to leave the exception in place.

Hopefully this helps some of you address the issue! If not, there is also a workaround on the Skype support page: https://support.skype.com/en/status/57644122

Still have the issue here. .. constant issues with skype. Everyone hates it here, except it can help you get out of work by telling someone you skyped it to them. Its a running joke on why you miss meetings, or anything. "oh did you skype me? oh thats why i didnt get it"

I accidentally rebooted my machine and now cant log back into desktop skype. No firewall rules blocking, even  bypassed router and connected directly to our net.

all i get is the spinning wheel of death. Put in the wrong pass and it immediately says wrong pass.

its been a half a year yall claim to be "working on this issue"

meanwhile every other chat program on the planet works just fine. Maybe if yall didnt bloat skype all to hell it would be easier to fix. IDK.

Im now on an anti skype crusade, trying to get everyone i know off that POS. Maybe then i can reliably connect with people and get their messages.

YOU ARE  MICROSOFT.. the ADULTS OF THE INTERNET.. freaken act like it please.

Hi joulesbeef,

What exactly is the version of Skype that you're using on your device?

I look forward to your reply.

Joulesbeef is right in his/her sentiment.  Every new version of Skype seems worse than the earlier ones.  All I want is a video chat app that can do groups, nothing more.  Microsoft, in trying to make Skype do many things, is doing all of them badly.

I was using version 7.0.60.102 (on a Windows 10 machine) some months ago.  Now, when I try to start it up, it signs me out "because you're using an outdated version of Skype."  It suggests downloading the latest version now, but that won't install.  What a mess!

Microsoft: Fix this mess.  Please!
