Skype Windows 10 App is EXTREMELY slow

Basic things such as scrolling up in a chat or typing out a message has become infuriatingly slow on the Windows 10 Skype App. It's actually been like this for months now, but recently its gotten so much worse. Even typing out things makes the whole app freeze and stutter its way through a sentence.

My PC is not the problem:

2x Samsung 850 1tb SSD (windows installed on SSD)

1080Ti

i7 4790k

32gb ram

Hello A jacal,

Right click on the Skype for Windows 10 app and click on the “Uninstall” button. This will uninstall the app automatically. Reinstall the Skype app on Windows Store.

Hope this helps. Let us know if you need further assistance.

Thanks.

Does not fix the issue - seems to be an underlying issue with Win10 Skype overall. Extremely slow on both main PC & Razer Blade laptop running Win10.

Hey there A jacal
I have a similar issue. Each message I send hangs in "Sending..." for 5-7 seconds. This is very frustrating. And it wasn't like that before. It started after some update. Some other skype app functionality also became slow but nothing infuriates me more then sending messages.I've also tried uninstalling/installing and that does not help.

Please, don't forget about me if you find any solution)

While Microsoft updates the app, uninstall it, go to skype.com, at the top left corner click "Downloads," choose "Desktop," and select "Get classic Skype" from the dropdown menu. This is the classic (normal) version of Skype.

Except that they today have decided to remove the option of using the old client.

The new one, while looking better, is horribly slow. Just scrolling up and down in the message plane caps one core in my processor to 100%. This level of performance is unacceptable. Most text editors and other software that mainly display text use less than one percent.

Also switching between different chats caps the processor to 100% for an entire second! How is this even possible?

When I start to write a Skype message and press some keys, they are only appearing very slowly one by one from keyboard buffer. Sometimes situation gets to normal after few seconds.

While I don't experience the processor capping to 100%, switching between conversations is very slow for me too. Incredibly slow and clunky UI.

Same here, the Skype app is very sluggish, uses a lot of CPU performance and therefore unusable.

When will this be fixed?

never had the cpu usage cap out like that, but using both pc and mobile phone, the new skype app has "poor connection" always on it and videos are very blocky and sound cuts out, but i switch to old skype on the pc on the same home network (or use phone to connect pc to the mobile network) the video and sound are perfect with 0 issues.
