Webcam won't work in Skype, Windows 10

Getting this every time I try to use the webcam on Skype (whichever version comes automatically with Windows 10 + is up to date).

Literary no other application is using the Webcam. When I tried to do a video call the webcam light turns on because of Skype, but skype complains about it being used by another application, which in this case is Skype, I guess except that it can't use it because of the error it shows... ?

Anyway, any suggestions on how to get Skype working ? Isn't a Webcam issue as it works fine everywhere else. :|

Hello ShadoX.,

To isolate the issue, please provide the exact Skype version that you're using and follow the steps below:

  • Check your privacy settings: right-click the windows icon in the bottom left corner of your screen > Settings > Privacy
  • Close all application that may be using your camera.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Re-launch Skype and make a test video call.

Let me know if the issue persists.

Why isn't there a fix for this? Countless users have this issue... it has nothing to do with privacy settings in most cases... All other programs work fine with my webcam. Brand new computer... turned off all other programs access to came.. problem persists... using Windows 10 64bit and Skype 12.1807.264.0. I even went so far as to totally reformat my entire computer (it's brand new just out of the box three days ago) to ensure no conflicts with other programs.. installed skype, problem persists! Why is there no direct chat support for these issues?

Please,  run the DirectX diagnostics tool.

Go to Windows Start  and in the Run box type dxdiag.exe and press the OK button. This will start the DirectX diagnostics program. Run this diagnostics and save the results to a file.

I agree with Richard Valentine's comments. The video on Skype Classic used to work perfectly. I've tried every fix I can find for the new Skype but the integrated webcam still thinks another app is using it.  Finally I borrowed a usb webcam and it works perfectly in both Skype and the Dell Intel Realsense laptop camera app. The problem is clearly related to Windows 10/Skype and needs a fix. Why don't they get on with it?

I deleted Skype, installed in again and it worked.

So did I, and yes Skype and the camera app worked, but only for a days. Then I got the "your camera is being used by another app" message again, in both Skype and in the Windows camera app. Tried reinstalling Skype again, same result. It's hopeless.
