Skype 12.9.604.0 Lumia 640 ringtone plays out earpiece

Since this update, my ringtone for incoming call plays out the receiver speaker instead of the rear speaker. Going into Skype settings and clicking Test Audio, plays the ringtone out the earpiece. I've reset Skype, uninstalled with a reboot before reload and even wiped my phone. Also, turning on phones vibrate only adds a chirping to the ringtone and no vibrations. This all used to work. I have no SD card installed.

As a workaround I stay plugged into headphones or speakers at all times to hear incoming call ring. The sound for message notifications is fine as are all other sounds. This happens to my wife's 640 also. We're running Windows Phone 10 1703.

Hello,

Please try to check the Audio settings of your device and see if the default player is your rear speaker.

Try to unplugged your headphone as well and check if the issue still persists.

Hope this helps! Let us know the results.

Thank you!

Windows Phone has no default audio device setting section. It only has Equalizer and Enhancements.

I've gathered some more information in my testing that should help narrow this down for the Skype dev team that works on Windows Phone 10. Please escalate this to the next level of support for the appropriate department.

Thank you, Susan_S and also to Aira B. from Skype support for working the issue with me. Aira pointed me to a Microsoft Partner B2X who spoke with me about my Lumia 640 LTE hardware. I have forwarded the chat back to Aira per request. The short of the conversation was this. Logic dictates that, since all other apps are using the speaker and camera correctly, the hardware is not an issue. I had hopes hardware support would work with me to get some logs or advanced diagnostics as to why Skype is malfunctioning but this did not materialize.

I look forward to working the next stage of repair on this issue.

I just received the new Skype 12.10.572.0 for my Windows 10 Phone. After a reset to the Skype app and a reboot, the issue with the Skype ringtone playing out the front speaker still remains. I can not hear incoming calls ring. I need to escalate this issue or be rolled back to whatever working version of Skype I had before I was updated to 12.9.604.0. I expect the dev teem will be getting a holiday in a week so I need to do this ASAP and get my Skype number usable again.

Identical problem here, same version of Skype and of Windows Phone, and same Phone Device (lumia 640 (XL)). All other Apps (e.g. Viber) are working without issues.

Dear Microsoft Team, Please solve the bug soon!

If already solved, please send the Details.

Thank you!

No helpful update from me and support. I was emailed by Aira B. requesting callback number, time, and screenshots of phone 3 days ago. My service request number is: 147018926. I've not been called back. However, my Skype and WP10 did get updates that didn't fix the ringtone issue. They only made things worse. Now I can't View Profile of a number I called and add it to my phonebook. I can only block and delete. The list grows.

  • Ringtone out front speaker
  • Vibrate broken
  • Sometimes doesn't ring while using the phone
  • Call tracking of incoming calls to Skype number no longer shows history
  • Items marked as New Message toggles back to new if viewed from Skype Classic
  • Email notification for missed calls is no longer an option
  • Can no longer edit a phone number you called and save it to your phonebook
  • Front camera is still upside down during video calls in portrait mode

Skype 12.10.572.0

Windows 10 Mobile 1703 10.0.15063.786

I didn't actually expect these updates to fix anything since the update was created before we brought these issues to the attention of support. I would like to roll back to a functioning version of Skype either via a sideload or the store. My phone is 100% working and functional all but Skype and Skype was fine back in October. Dev team should have 640 LTE phones in their hands before they unleash a broken product on us if they expect us to trust automatic updates.
