How to add username on new account?

I create a new account. But I can not find my username / There are no option to add a username. What is my username? and how can I add this/ find this?

Post transferred from the "News & Announcements" forum to the Account: Account Set-Up & Maintenance message board for correct placement.

Hi, HasibulHasanDZX,

Microsoft accounts do not include or use the old account "name" or "nickname" system that was a part of Skype accounts prior to September 2016.  Your "user name" will be either the e-mail address or phone number used as the Microsoft account identifier when you created your new Microsoft account.

Kind regards,

Elaine

I am very angry to find that I cannot create a Skype username, after registering a new Outlook.com mail account, and am forced to use my full email address AS my "username" on Skype, so that anyone else who connects with me or mutually participates in any group chats I am brought into can see my actual email address, instead of just the username portion of it, or whatever other Skype ID/username I would have created! My old Skype accounts from even a year ago all have a username I log in with, that is NOT a full email address! Why would Microsoft remove our ability to create a nice, short user ID that personal and business contacts can actually remember, and which also hides and protects our full email address for security purposes?! Please put this ID/username option BACK!! Countless Microsoft Skype users are complaining about this very same issue on this site/forum. Please listen to what people want, and stop making our online lives more difficult! I'm sure you will be losing business because of this. I sure won't be upgrading to a paid Skype account, when I can't even create a username/ID for the one I already have!

This is frustrating for users who share their Skype ID over a call. Telling phone number or email is not really great way to share Skype ID. I would prefer to have username which can be short and not associated with email or phone number.

It seems Microsoft don't care to keep their users happy, because they just aren't LISTENING to us and UNDERSTANDING why doing away with the Skype usernames we used to have is NOT a good idea! It's a security hazard!!! Does it ever occur to you, Microsoft, that we might not WANT our personal email address and/or phone numbers on display to strangers we might connect with on Skype? Not only that, but a short username is so much better for so many reasons - the least of which is, our family, friends, and contacts can REMEMBER it so much easier!

BRING BACK the Skype usernames, that do NOT include a full email address!!!!!!

I am very angry to find that I cannot create a Skype username, after registering a new Outlook.com mail account, and am forced to use my full email address.....

I didn't want to quote the entire rant, but I agree 100%

I teach English as a Second Language and Skype had always been my primary way to communicate with current and potential clients and students.  Prior to this change, my Skype handle was my complete name.  For obvious security reasons, I decided to abandon this personal Skype account and make a new one specifically for work.

The problem now is that I don't have a nice, short handle (i.e. my company's name) that I can put on my business card.  My new Skype ID is basically live:*** Email address is removed for privacy ***12133423431

Doesn't much fit on a card, does it Microsoft?

Needless to say,  because of this obviously poor decision of Microsoft's part...and their inability to listen to their own customers.... my clients and I have all switched over to Google Hangouts for our primary means of online face-to-face communication.

Microsoft Admin,  please respond to this.  I am no one special...I am not demanding an explanation.  I just hope you realize that you lost about 50+ users just from my company alone.  It probably is not in your best interest to ignore all these requests.  I am seeing complaints about this very thing from 2016, only to be responded to with the very same excuse I'm hearing now in mid 2018.
