Using a VOIP phone to use Skype

Hi.

Firstly, I am a complete beginner with regards to Voip and Skype.

I have a VOIP phone (IP Phone). Can I connect this into my home network which has access to the internet and use "Skype" ?

If yes, what is my first step ?

Many thanks in advance

Mike

Hi Mike,

My name is Theresa. One of the Independent Advisors and consumers of Microsoft products. I'll be more than glad to assist you today!

Apparently, using Skype landline phones, cordless DECT phones, and analog telephone adapters (ATA) is no longer possible. You may check this link for more information: https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA34763/which-...

I'll just be around, let me know if you have further questions or concerns.

Thank you.

Hello Mike,

Thank you for reaching out to Skype Community.

For the list of compatible phone systems for Skype Connect, you can check this link: Skype Connect

To be able to use Skype Connect, you will need to create a Skype Manager. To set up your Skype Manager, please refer to this FAQ:

What is Skype Connect™ and how does it work?

Hi Mike,

By creating a Skype Manager account, you can then manage to set up Skype Connect. By using Skype business accounts associated with your SIP-enabled PBX, your business can make great value Skype calls and receive calls from your customers using your desk phones.

However, before getting Skype Connect, make sure you meet the requirements. We recommend that you use a Skype Connect certified PBX or gateway. Although a non-certified PBX may work with Skype Connect, we cannot ensure all features and functions will operate correctly.

Current list of Skype Connect certified SIP-enabled PBX vendors: https://www.skype.com/en/features/skype-connect/

System requirements your PBX needs to support: https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA10550/what-a...

I hope this helps.

Please do not hesitate to send me a message if you have further questions. Glad to help!

Hi Theresa

I'm lost ...

All I have is an IP Desktop phone in my home (Where I work from). I was hoping that I could just connect the phone to my router and then have the phones IP address registered onto the "Skype System" and away I go  ?

Best Regards

Mike
