"Unable to sign in" Error Message

When logging in to Skype using the Android App I get the unhelpful error message "Unable to sign in", followed by an even more unhelpful blank screen. The account is fine on the PC & IOS versions. I can login using another Skype account on the Android App.

I did some digging and found comments about clearing the cache etc. after a Force Stop. There is no cache clearing option to be had on my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge running Android 7.0.  Also it is impossible to uninstall Skype as it is embedded on this device, all you can do is remove updates, but you have to reinstall them before you can run Skype again.

I would appreciate any help that can be given.

Thanks!

I cleared the cache on my phone and downloaded the latest update. It's been working fine until yesterday. Now when I log in I get unable to connect and ten a blank screen. You can text me at 904-563-0433.

I realised what had gone wrong when i started getting the 'unable to sign in' error.

I had hit yes on a privacy popup skype had thrown. This option was to restrict apps on other devices to connect to my account.

I got this popup on my windows 10 laptop.

The latest version of skype is installed in my system.

I tried to go to options > privacy on skype for desktop, but the latest version did not have the option to enable other apps to connect to my account.

I browsed my skype account thoroughly on the web and still no option.

Then i went into windows settings > privacy > general > let apps on other devices open apps and continue experiences. Voila! No error anymore :)

Best,

Aberserk.

Same issue here. I can sign into skype on my desktop just fine. I try on android and I get "unable to sign in" every time.

I have cleared the data, uninstalled and everything. Issue still persists.

That is not an option in my windows 10 pro. I was finally able to sign in on my Android today without changing anything though.

well if it worked automatically, it most likely must be windows updates that might have corrected the privacy option and subsequently allowed access of the account from android. still this is just my assumption as it worked this way for me. its pretty frustrating to see the error, glad its resolved for us.

This issue was worked around with a phone wipe and reinstall. There may be other solutions, but this was necessary for me in any case.

Hi P5EUDONYM,

Good Day!

To start with, please be advised that, due to changes in Skype set up from peer to peer to the cloud, some version and platforms will no longer work and one of the platforms is Android devices.

With that, we strongly advise for you to update your supported OS version and Skype app to avoid incompatibility issue and for you to not lose access to Skype.

Thank you!

So to be clear: are you saying that Skype no longer works on Android devices?

In a related question, do you really think I will go and buy an apple or windows phone so I can just use Skype?
