Skype not working on Amazon Fire Tablet

Since a recent update to version 8.15.0.389, Skype no longer works on my two Amazon Fire Tablets (7th Gen).  Tries to connect - rings once and disconnects.  Calls to the Skype Test Service, ring once and report the service as unreachable.  Previous version worked fine.  Anyone else having this problem?
Hello cgfb1946, my name is Emmanuel. An Independent Advisor and a Skype user for several years. I'll be more than happy to assist you today!

I am so sorry to hear that you are having an issue using Skype on your Amazon Fire Tablet. If I may ask, what is the exact model of your Amazon tablet? Currently, the latest version of the Skype app only supports Skype for Amazon Kindle Fire HD/HDX and Amazon Fire HD tablet in reference to this article https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA12041/what-i...

I think Skype has already stopped supporting the older models which could be the possible reason why Skype is no longer working on your tablet. From what I know, the latest version needs higher specifications like the processor and RAM for it to work smoothly.

Hope this information can help you.

Hello Emmanuel.

Thanks for your prompt reply.  The exact model is Fire HD 8 (7th Generation).  From the documentation that you provided, I believe this is still a supported model.  The documentation indicates that latest Skype version for this model is 8.15.0.419 while the version that I have is 8.15.0.389.  My version was auto updated to my tablet on 22 Sept which was when my problems started.  The 419 version is not yet available to me through the Amazon Appstore.

My experience with another platform (a nine year old iPod) is that Skype app advises you that your device is not supported when you attempt to download the app and the app will not download.  That does not occur in this case.

I suspect that I will have to wait for the 419 version and hope that it resolves my problem.

I see. I think the current version that you have has a bug on it. It will be better to report this problem to Skype so that the developers will get notified for them to investigate the issue to find the root cause and provide a permanent fix in the next updates. To report a problem, kindly go to your Skype app SETTINGS > HELP & FEEDBACK > REPORT A PROBLEM.

You may also try clearing the App Cache and Data on Your Fire Tablet by following the steps below:

1.Open the Settings menu.
2. Select Apps & Games.
3. Select Manage All Applications and open the app you are having trouble with.
4. Then select Clear Cache and Clear Data.

I hope this can help you.

I have tried the clearing data and cache as you suggested as well as a delete and re-install of the app.  No change in the result.  I will report the problem to Skype.

Thank you for your assistance and suggestions.

Hello,

Sorry that you are appear to be having the same problem.  It must have been very disappointing for your elderly neighbour, in particular.

I am convinced that is a problem related to the latest Skype version that was automatically updated in the last week (version 8.15.0.389) as there were no problems before.  As I mentioned in an earlier post,  Skype shows a later version 8.15.0.419 as the current one for the Fire HD tablet.  Unfortunately that newer version is no yet available through the Amazon Appstore.  Whether it will solve the problem I do not know.

I have reported the problem to both Skype and Amazon.  I reported the problem to Skype via an on-line Problem Report but I have no idea if or when they will respond and address it.  I reported the problem to Amazon and talked to a real person who submitted the problem report on my behalf.  They assure me that there will be a response within two business days.  I will post it here when I hear back from them.
