Skype ID, Microsoft account and email addresses...

Hi there,

I am really confused about Skype IDs and Microsoft accounts and address emails...

I have had my very old Skype ID, and then the Microsoft acquisition happened and I understand that all old Skype IDs are now also Microsoft Accounts.

Objective: I can connect to Skype with my ID, but, for personal preference, I want to connect with an address email and keep my old Skype ID.

But the address email that is associated to my Skype ID (visible in Skype/Settings) doesn't allow me to connect to Skype with my Skype pwd.

I realised that this email address is also a (standalone?) Microsoft account.

If I connect to Skype with this address email and its (own) pwd, I find that it is not my initial Skype ID, but one with live:********* and I don't have all my contacts.

If I connect on live.com to my Skype ID as a Microsoft account, I can see I have a profile (with my old Skype picture). I changed the email but this change is not reflected in Skype/settings...

Can someone help please?

All Skype accounts are now Microsoft accounts.

However, in the past, it was possible to create a Skype account with a user defined Skype Name. Such accounts are not explicitly linked with a Microsoft email address, and this Skype Name can be used as the Login ID.

It is no longer possible to link such Skype accounts with an existing email address, but is possible to link with a new Outlook address.

Try to login with your Skype Name to Microsoft.com site. You will be asked to create a new Outlook account. When this new Microsoft account is created, you will be able to login to your old Skype account using either your old Skype Name or this Microsoft email address

Thank you so much for taking the time to educate me on the matter.

So, following your message, I went back to live.com and signed in with my Skype ID. I added the email address I want to use as an alias in Sign-in preferences, alongside my old Skype ID.

Now I can sign in on both Skype App and live.com with my email address, and still have my old Skype ID as a handle.

However...

I have tried so many things before coming here and requesting help that the email situation is a mess, and I can't find a way to fix it:

On Microsoft.com sign in preferences page, you can find my email address of choice, alongside my Skype ID...

...but on Skype.com there is a different email address (they don't sync)...

...and then on the Skype App, there is another email address (3rd one) that requires to be changed on the page above (skype.com) but the update is not reflected on the app.

Please advise.

I don't know why, but other people have also reported that there is an issue with synchronization of the verified email addresses between Profile settings page and Skype application.

I had a similar issue in the past, and what helped me then was to "Clear app data".

In Skype open Settings -> Privacy . Select the "Clear app data" option.

Thank you so much.
