Skype for Mac crashes on startup

Hey,

As the title says my Skype crashes on start-up every time.

I have tried the normal steps (up to date OS and Skype, Re-install etc) but I still can't get it to work!

Anyone had this problem and managed to fix it?

Go through all these steps again:

Restart your Mac, sign in again then attempt make a call to see if it works.

Click Skype Menu
Click Audio & video
Check if your audio and video settings a configured properly then make a test call.

Still not working..

Press Command+Shift+G at the same time and the Go to the folder will show.
Type ~/Library/Application Support
Open the Skype folder
Look for shared.xml then drag it to the trash
Open the folder with your Skype Name and drag config.xml to the trash as well.

Rename Skype Folder:

Press Command+Shift+G at the same time and the
Go to the folder will show.
Type ~/Library/Application Support
Search for Skype and rename it to SkypeOld

Open the Finder > Applications
Right click Skype
Click Move to Trash

Restart your Mac again.
Log on to http://www.skype.com

Thanks for the excellent reply!

I just conducted a system wide search and deleted anything to do with Skype.

Then I reinstalled and I am able to get to the login in screen but alas it crashes when trying to login!

Hi again,

Yes I have done that I am able to login and all seem to be working. I'm just wary as I saw classic is being discontinued and people are being forced to upgrade to version 8+

The new Skype is very new and lacking certain features and functionality. You should file this as a bug report, remove Skype 8.25 then reinstall the classic version.

In Skype for Mac, click Help > report a problem.

Skype is currently in a period of transition and I guess the idea is for Microsoft to invest in restoring functionality 'overtime' it needs to at least get everyone on the newer releases. Skype is being rebuilt from the ground up and this is to ensure features are cross platform (Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android) and are truly in sync when launched.

As you might know, engineering resources are always limited; especially to maintain two platforms. Microsoft's future is beyond win32 which classic Skype is built on.

Its just that its a rough transition that is under way. What I suspect is, starting September, we are gonna start seeing rapid updates with features available at least once or twice per week.
