Skype for Linux does not start up

Hello,

I have Skype for linux installed on my Ubuntu 16.04 which has worked fine up until now.  I received a spam message from one of my contacts which I accidentally clicked, and now my skype won't start up anymore.  I can start up the application the icon appears on the Launcher as if the app is running, however no windows appear.

I tried purging and re-installing the package, but that did not seem to help.

Thank you for your replies

Hi vkonovets,

Sorry to know about what happened.

Based from your description, the Skype package for the version you are installing may have gone corrupted.

I would recommend you try installing a different Skype version to see if it runs.

You may use this link for testing purposes: Skype for Linux

Let me know if it works.

Thank you for your reply,

Unfortunately that did not work.  I managed to get it running again by installing libappindicator1 package and installing skype using apt-get.

My guess as to what happened was that I minimized skype, and for some reason clicking on the icon in the launcher does not re-maximize it  (now still even after the reinstallating and with libappindicator1).  Quitting and reinstalling skype for some reason did not re-maximize it either, so I now when if I minimize, I have to re-open it via the tray icon.

Hi,

I have the same problem with the snap. I know that I can install the deb package to solve it and use Skype. However just in case is useful to the developers, can this problem be related with the issue raised in the following link?
