Skype for Business - Mute button grayed out

Issue with Skype for Business on my iPhone (Skype for Business works OK on my laptop)
When joining a Skype meeting with the smartphone (below the details) I can actually join the meeting and chat with the participants but I cannot talk and I cannot hear anything. The microphone is disabled and I cannot change this setting while on the meeting (e.g. the Mute button is grayed out).

How can I fix this issue? Thanks for your help!

Hi GM997,

Firstly, please check if you enabled Microphone on your iPhone. Go to Settings > find Skype for Business and check it.

Meanwhile, please let me know the result after you perform the following tests:

1. Use different network environment, Cellular and Wi-Fi, to check if the problem is related to the network.
2. Use the touch-tone commands, such as *6, which lets you switch between mute and unmute.
3. Reinstall the Skype for Business app.

4. If possible, find another iOS device, sign in your Office 365 account on the Skype for Business client, and check if the problem persists.

Thanks,

Lance

Thanks Lance,

1) was OK.

2) I tried but did not work.

3) I did that but it did not change anything.

4) I cannot do that as I have the problem in a corporate devidce and I cannot test in a second device as it would need to be registered and first.

Any other ideas? I can see in the web this is a problem aslo other users have....

Hi GM997,

According to our reply, you said “was OK”, do you mean the Mute button was not grayed out on your iPhone when changed the network environment? If yes, may I know in which network environments it worked fine and not grayed out, in Cellular or Wi-Fi?

Has this issue existed for a long time or it just happened recently?

Please try to initiate a call to Skype for Business users via your iPhone to see if the button also grayed.

May I confirm with you whether other users in your organization facing the same issue?

Thanks,

Anna

Hi GM997,

According to your issue, have you checked the Skype for Business permissions on your iPhone via Settings->rolling down to the bottom-> find the Skype for Business App?

Generally, if you are invited to join a meeting, and a presenter mute the audience by clicking “Participant Action”->”Mute audience” or by right-clicking the person ->”mute”, anyway, if you are muted by an presenter, the issue may occurs. Next time you have the issue, please check from presenter to confirm whether you are muted in meeting.

If the issue persist, try to reinstall it to see if issue still occurs.

Thanks,

Anna

I think you don't have a microphone there.

The mic works fine with a number of apps and also with Skype.

In fact the issue does not occur all the times. It occurs ramdomly... well we haven't been able to detect why it occurs when it occurs to be  precise.

Hi GM997,

According to your issue, I have taken a test, and on my side, the result shows when I joining a meeting as an attendee and once the presenter set the: Participant Action->Mute audience, the mute button will grayed out on my iPhone. So, please check with the meeting presenters whether all of participants in meeting was muted by Participant Action->Mute audience and whether you were set as an attendee in meeting.

Thanks,

Anna

Hi Anna,

I made a test and this is not the issue...

I also tried to join a call in advance (30 min prior the start time of the call) and I was the only participant in that call and I had the grayed out mic...

The only way to mute the audience is to join as presenter and use the function "mute audience". Correct? You cannot set this feature in the meeting invite to be activated automatically as soon as someone joins the call. Right?

I also joined a call where I am the presenter... and I have the same issue.

Thanks for your support!

Giovanni
